Requirements
  • Current South Carolina Licensed Practical Nurse license or compact-state license.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider equivalent.
  • Ability to perform the required standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stair climbing, reaching, hand and leg use, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to qualify physically for respirator use when required.
  • Corrected vision of 20/40 and ability to recognize objects at close and distant range.
  • Ability to work in a latex-safe indoor environment.
  • Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, or carry approximately 50 pounds unassisted and lift 25 pounds from 36 inches to overhead.
Responsibilities
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform scheduled maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment in accordance with OSHA, DHEC, and UMA requirements, with documentation.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information; document test and examination results.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients and develop patient education materials when necessary.
  • Maintain exam-room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of the patient-care environment.
  • Maintain timely patient flow and assist with appointment and referral scheduling based on urgency and availability.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information and provide diagnosis- and treatment-related education.
  • Observe, record, and report patients’ physical and psychosocial conditions and reactions to medications and treatments to the physician.
  • Respond to and triage phone calls and call in physician-authorized orders appropriately.
  • Instruct patients regarding treatment and medication as ordered by the physician.
  • Monitor and distribute medications, including samples and controlled substances.
  • Triage patients and prepare them for physician examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as necessary.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.
