The Problem We’re Solving
Our mission is to eliminate supply chain waste by creating a digital platform to manage freight and eliminate supply chain waste.
There are 500 million hours wasted in trucking each year, over 3 billion gallons of fuel wasted per year from trucks idling, and 1 in 5 trucks on the road driving empty at any given point. This has a massive impact on the environment, the lives of millions of drivers, and ultimately, the cost of goods that we all pay. Job Description
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will help lead the development and maintenance of our core web infrastructure. You’ll leverage your expertise in system architecture, data pipelines, and automation to ensure scalability, reliability, and security. This pivotal role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, driving innovative solutions, and mentoring junior engineers. Ideal candidates are proactive, experienced problem-solvers with strong development skills in Python or similar languages, and a passion for technology.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of our near real time data streaming platform -- from data pipelines to data models, and all the way up to the API layer, you’ll be the go-to person when adding new features
- Design the data streaming and messaging architecture, and own the data landscape, including near real-time data ingestion, processing, and data consumption
- Work closely with a diverse set of stakeholders to distill complex data problems into elegant technical solutions
- Invent and tinker. Imagine completely new ideas, experiment, and build transformative solutions for the freight industry
Basic Qualifications
- Proficient with backend language (Python, Java or modern backend programming language)
- Ability to build a data infrastructure from scratch
- Ability to architect complex data models supporting a real-world business
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in computer science or related field
- 5+ years experience in software development
- Infrastructure development experience with big data infrastructure such as Databricks, Kafka, Spark, etc.
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern big data

Compensation Range: The annual base salary range for this position is $156,000 - $217,000*. Compensation will vary based on factors including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. In addition to base salary, Baton’s full-time employees are eligible for an annual performance bonus.
