Requirements
  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A current unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the practicing state.
  • At least one year of clinical nursing experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion when working with residents.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents in the infirmary and supervise day-to-day nursing activities performed by certified nursing assistants.
  • Direct the daily activities of certified nursing assistants and resident care associates in accordance with regulations and facility policies.
  • Follow the nursing model to promote holistic resident care.
  • Ensure nursing personnel comply with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Participate in resident admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Assess changes in residents' status, notify the physician and the resident's family or representative, and document accordingly.
  • Transcribe physician orders to the medical record and carry out orders as written.
  • Prepare and administer medications according to physician orders and observe for adverse effects.
  • Perform wound treatments according to physician orders, observe for changes, and document accordingly.
  • Schedule resident follow-up appointments and transportation as needed.
  • Provide nursing leadership to personnel assigned to the unit.
  • Perform direct-care skills including colostomy changes, tube feedings, wound care, suctioning, and intravenous administration.
  • Perform rounds to ensure resident needs are met and personnel complete assigned duties.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure residents' holistic needs are met.
  • Report incidents and unusual occurrences to the community leadership team.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of medications, supplies, and equipment and notify appropriate personnel of needs.
  • Initiate, review, and update care plans as required.
  • Participate in inspection survey processes.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities as assigned.
  • Ensure infection-control principles are followed and help correct identified practice deficiencies.
  • Report allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to a supervisor or administrator.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and updates.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Clinical nursing experience in geriatrics is preferred.
