Babylist is a universal baby registry platform that lets expecting and new parents add baby products from multiple stores into one registry, rather than being tied to a single retailer. Parents create a registry, browse items from partner retailers like Amazon, Target, and Etsy, and add products from different stores in one place, aided by expert-vetted guides, an interactive checklist, and curated kits. It differentiates itself by enabling cross-store registries with practical planning tools and curated offerings, supported by affiliate commissions, exclusive kits, and advertising partnerships. The goal is to simplify shopping and planning for new parents, helping them feel confident about having everything they need while driving ongoing engagement for the business.

Rent the Runway founder Jenn Hyman to lead $1B Babylist as CEO in rare founder-to-founder handoff

Jenn Hyman, who left Rent the Runway in May, will become CEO of baby registry service Babylist on 9 September. Babylist founder Natalie Gordon will transition to executive chair. The move represents a rare founder-to-founder CEO handoff. Gordon has built Babylist for 15 years, whilst Hyman spent 18 years at Rent the Runway, taking it public in 2021. Babylist is on track for $1 billion in revenue this year and approaching an IPO — roughly three times Rent the Runway's $330 million revenue last year. Gordon began considering stepping aside 18 months ago, before one of the company's strongest years. The pair met last autumn, and Hyman joined Babylist's board in January. Hyman will adapt from fashion's in-person culture to Babylist's fully remote workforce of 300 employees.
