Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician.
  • CVT, RVT, or LVT certification and eligibility for licensure in California.
  • A degree in veterinary technology.
  • A passing score on the Veterinary Technician National Examination.
  • Effective leadership qualities.
  • The ability to promote effective communication among team members.
  • Professionalism in all interactions.
  • The ability to lead by example.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to stand for up to 12 hours per day.
  • The ability to sit, kneel, bend, or crouch for extended periods.
Responsibilities
  • Perform credentialed veterinary nursing practical skills as required.
  • Mentor and develop shift leads, guiding their department growth and encouraging advancement of skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Conduct routine meetings with shift leaders to discuss staffing, workflow, and other issues.
  • Solve problems and ensure resolutions are enacted and communicated effectively to the team.
  • Provide multidirectional communication among the hospital director, medical director, hospital service manager, and shift leads.
  • Oversee clinical operations, including scheduling staff shifts, ensuring efficient patient care, maintaining workflow, and supporting exceptional patient care.
  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training new veterinary nurses and assistants in collaboration with hospital leadership.
  • Ensure employees follow policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with clinical team members and facilitate performance reviews in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Provide recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, disciplinary action, and termination.
  • Directly supervise four or more employees and direct and coordinate their work.
  • Lead coaching, performance management, corrective action, and performance evaluations of assigned employees.
  • Exercise independent judgment regarding staffing, workflow, employee performance, scheduling, operational priorities, and resolution of clinical support team issues.
Desired Qualifications
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist certification in emergency and critical care.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, scheduling software, and veterinary management platforms.
