What believers are saying

  • April 2026 CX+ claimed 40-60% faster due diligence across 150+ deals.
  • March 2025 Springbok acquisition lets Cleary sell customized AI instead of generic tools.

What critics are saying

  • If AI software wins, Cleary becomes a software vendor, not a premium law firm.

Cleary Gottlieb sells software to help clients do their own legal work

ClearyX, a subsidiary of Wall Street law firm Cleary Gottlieb, is selling software that enables clients to handle legal work in-house, potentially reducing their reliance on outside counsel. The company has developed two products: CX+Transact for deal review and CX+Insights for contract analysis. Since 2022, ClearyX has handled routine legal work like due diligence at lower rates than traditional Big Law firms. CEO Carla Swansburg said the company decided to build its own software after clients expressed dissatisfaction with existing AI tools. CX+Transact starts at approximately $12,000 per project or $30,000 annually, whilst CX+Insights begins at around $50,000 yearly. The move represents a strategic bet: if legal work is becoming easier to automate, Cleary Gottlieb would rather sell the enabling software than lose business entirely.
