Requirements
  • A graduate of an approved school of nursing is required for team members hired before January 1, 2020.
  • New hires and team members moved into or transferring to this job must obtain a Bachelor of Science within 36 months of placement in the role.
  • Maintain a current professional license as a registered nurse in the State of Florida, or hold the specified Certified Surgical Technologist or Tech in Surgery certification.
  • Maintain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support or Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification appropriate to the patient population.
  • Have two years of experience as a registered nurse in a surgical area or as a surgical technologist.
  • Have one year of experience in a surgery leadership role, such as manager, assistant manager, supervisor, charge, or team lead.
  • Assume responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
  • Meet all mandatory and developmental requirements for Orlando Health and the unit or department.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate staffing needs and review daily coverage to meet patient care requirements.
  • Collaborate with the surgical control desk liaison, anesthesia, pre-operative, and post-anesthesia care unit teams to ensure optimal daily case flow and compliance with productivity targets.
  • Monitor schedules to identify special equipment or supply needs.
  • Collaborate with physicians on implementing new procedures and technology and on requests for new equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor vendor accessibility and participation in scheduled cases to ensure compliance with operating room policies and procedures.
  • Monitor surgeon block-time utilization and operating room suite use as directed.
  • Maintain a current list of surgeons, monitor credentials, and update preference cards.
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Operations Manager, Administrator, and physicians to identify current and future service-line needs.
  • Maintain proficiency in the assigned role and in the circulator role.
  • Identify future equipment needs and replacements.
  • Participate in MEOC activities with surgeons to evaluate and pilot equipment and supplies and promote standardization of surgical supplies.
  • Operate specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment for designated service lines as directed.
  • Collaborate with vendors to provide in-service training to staff on new equipment, procedures, and technology changes.
  • Provide in-service training for supply, processing, and distribution staff on cleaning and sterilization of instruments and accessories as directed.
  • Coordinate with Materials Management and sterile processing staff to ensure routine inventories and prescribed levels of sterile and non-sterile specialty supplies and equipment are maintained.
  • Assist with clinical evaluation of team members, complete written clinical performance evaluations, and conduct timely team-member assessments.
  • Participate in hiring and evaluating potential team members.
  • Cultivate customer service throughout the unit or department.
  • Monitor team-member compliance with certifications, licenses, and required education as directed.
  • Plan and evaluate compliance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Manage human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and laws.
  • Maintain compliance with Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging.
