Requirements
  • At least 5 years of operations leadership experience, ideally spanning multiple sites, states, or business units in a fast-growing or professional services environment.
  • Strong financial and profit-and-loss fluency, including the ability to use a profit-and-loss statement to prioritize operational work.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing issues by return on investment and impact and communicate that prioritization clearly to stakeholders at every level.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and drive execution through people who are not directly managed.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity within a fast-scaling, still-being-defined organizational structure.
  • Working knowledge of, or strong aptitude to quickly learn, the full personal injury case lifecycle, including intake and case value, pre-litigation, litigation, medical and case management, and settlements.
  • Experience developing and delegating to direct reports, with the judgment to determine when to handle work personally and when to delegate it.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to states within the assigned region.
  • High intellectual curiosity, strong organizational skills, and enjoyment of connecting people and solving cross-functional problems.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the operational lead and primary point of connection across intake, pre-litigation, litigation, medical and case management, and settlements for the region's states.
  • Act as the air traffic controller for the region by monitoring state activity, identifying duplicated effort or gaps, and coordinating the right people around the right problems.
  • Partner with state managing attorneys as operational co-pilots and share accountability for state performance and execution.
  • Support new-state launches by helping establish managing attorneys, case intake and workflows, and the state's operating rhythm.
  • Continuously surface operational issues across the states, including provider and client care gaps, technology and product friction, staffing and capacity constraints, and process breakdowns.
  • Translate potential improvements into the highest-return priorities for each state.
  • Route issues to centralized or platform teams, including client care, technology, analytics, marketing, recruiting, training, compliance, and intake, and drive them to resolution.
  • Provide state managing attorneys with clear, timely feedback on escalated issue status.
  • Maintain a transparent, recurring view of regional priorities and projects for managing attorneys and leadership.
  • Treat regional profit and loss as the central key performance indicator and monitor state financial performance.
  • Build and maintain expected capacity models by role and state, including case managers, legal assistants, and litigation staff.
  • Work with managing attorneys and analytics to define state key performance indicators, goals, and scorecards that roll up to regional profit and loss.
  • Define decision rights for managing attorneys, including when changes require recommendation and approval from the Vice President or Chief Operating Officer.
  • Directly manage and develop an operations manager or right hand and delegate project-based work while maintaining alignment on regional priorities and decisions.
  • Run or actively participate in weekly leadership syncs, state-level team meetings, and monthly regional operating reviews with managing attorneys, analytics, the Chief Operating Officer, and the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Coach state managing attorneys and their teams on prioritization and identify deficiencies before they become larger problems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading operations for a multi-state or multi-office personal injury law firm, with direct exposure to intake, pre-litigation, litigation, and settlements.
  • A track record of partnering with attorneys or partners on business and operational performance rather than running internal operations in isolation.
  • Familiarity with legal case management systems and how case-level data translates into staffing, key performance indicator, and financial decisions.
  • Experience establishing or scaling a regional operating model inside a high-growth company.
