Requirements
  • A current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse is required.
  • A specialty certification in the area of clinical practice is required, either at hire or within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, regulatory codes, and personnel and administrative policies is required.
  • At least two years of experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • At least three years of experience in the specialty field is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required; online programs from any organization are not accepted.
Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and effective care to all patients on the unit.
  • Foster an environment based on Neuman’s Client System Model and Watson’s Caring Model of patient care delivery.
  • Organize teams based on Benner’s Novice to Expert theory.
  • Lead the unit by providing direction and guidance.
  • Participate in staff development and training while serving as a mentor and resource person.
  • Participate in completing performance appraisals for nursing and support staff.
  • Manage the unit for a specific shift in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
  • Serve as a liaison among the physician, patient, and family.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Prior experience as an Assistant Nurse Manager or clinical coordinator is preferred.
  • Advanced life support certification in the area of specialty is preferred.
  • PALS certification is preferred.
