About the job

Requirements
  • The candidate must have 2–3 years of professional editing or copyediting experience in digital publishing, content marketing, an agency, or a similar setting.
  • The candidate must have an excellent command of grammar, punctuation, and style, with the judgment to know when a rule should flex.
  • The candidate must have a sharp eye for detail and a commitment to catching errors before publication.
  • The candidate must be able to give writers kind, specific, actionable feedback.
  • The candidate must be comfortable working with subject-matter experts and non-professional writers.
  • The candidate must have strong organizational and time-management skills and be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • The candidate must be based remotely in Canada.
Responsibilities
  • Catch spelling, grammar, factual, and formatting errors before content is published.
  • Rewrite passive constructions into active voice, replace jargon with plain language, and tighten wordy sentences without losing meaning.
  • Check that headings are logical and accurately reflect the content beneath them.
  • Verify statistics, claims, and quotes against primary sources, and flag anything unverified.
  • Apply the house style consistently across punctuation, capitalization, formatting, and tone.
  • Flag style deviations for writers rather than silently fixing them, and suggest updates to the style guide when patterns or gaps emerge.
  • Ensure each section leads with its main point and help structure content into clear, self-contained sections that answer specific questions.
  • Identify forced keywords or unnatural phrasing and ensure writing reads naturally for people.
  • Check that link text is descriptive and specific.
  • Follow SEO and Generative Engine Optimization guidelines when editing.
  • Keep multiple pieces moving through briefs, review stages, and approvals on deadline.
  • Give writers clear, constructive feedback explaining the reason behind each change.
  • Work with coaches and subject-matter experts to clarify and strengthen drafts.
  • Help document and improve editorial processes as the organization scales.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience using or contributing to style guides.
  • Experience editing for admissions, higher education, or other high-stakes audiences.
  • Familiarity with a content management system such as WordPress or Webflow, and tools such as Google Docs, Notion, or Asana.
  • Basic understanding of Generative Engine Optimization.
