Requirements
- A Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from a Commission on Dental Accreditation-accredited dental school or equivalent.
- A certificate of training and educational qualification from an American Dental Association-accredited specialty program.
- Dental license registration and eligibility for licensure in New Mexico.
Responsibilities
- Initiate and guide student doctor and patient interactions.
- Perform dental procedures on clinic patients as needed.
- Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
- Assist in solving patient-related problems.
- Assist the Director of Oral Surgery in reviewing each student’s performance within the oral surgery clinic.
- Ensure the accuracy of student clinical notes, approve student procedural codes, and evaluate students in preparedness, professionalism, and promptness.
- Monitor unapproved treatment notes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Report instances of misconduct to the Director of Oral Surgery.
- Maintain calibration as determined by the Director of Clinical Education.
- Ensure all clinical protocols are followed in the assigned clinical areas.
- Maintain infection-control compliance.
- Complete reviews of student activity upon request.
- Assist with supervision of the Clinical Formative and Summative Examination process.
- Attend periodic meetings with the Director of Oral Surgery and clinical faculty meetings, including Faculty Forum.
- Serve on relevant clinical committees if appointed.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience.
- A Drug Enforcement Administration number.
- Board eligibility or board certification.
- A track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care, along with demonstrated or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching, research, or service.
- Engagement and familiarity with curriculum development and digital dentistry technology, and experience in faculty calibration.
- A high degree of interpersonal competency, including professionalism, diplomacy, judgment, and discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues.
- Ability to organize tasks.
