Requirements
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with healthcare electronic health record applications such as EPIC and Cerner.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and third-party insurance coverage, including managed care plans.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a hospital, physician practice, or other related healthcare customer-service environment is required for the Emergency Department; current Jefferson Seamless Access Representatives with at least 1 year of experience meet this requirement.
Responsibilities
  • Provide a positive patient experience to patients and families while registering patients.
  • Search for and select the correct patient record, and gather complete and accurate demographic and insurance information.
  • Identify uninsured patients for referral to Medical Assistance or Charity Care evaluation.
  • Retrieve orders, confirm medical necessity, and answer phones for outpatient visits.
  • Gather workers' compensation or auto insurance information from accident patients.
  • Collect patient out-of-pocket liability and copayments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including out-of-pocket liability, using Real Time Eligibility, Phreesia, or payer websites.
  • Confirm that referrals and authorizations are on file when required.
  • Gather demographic information to identify existing Jefferson patients or assign medical record numbers to new patients.
  • Request photo identification and insurance cards and scan copies.
  • Interview Medicare patients to accurately complete the Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaire.
  • Complete activities in accordance with departmental and institutional protocols and regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Achieve individual and team performance metrics.
  • Rotate assignments among all Patient Access points of service, including Outpatient Registration and the Emergency Department.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate's degree in healthcare or business administration is preferred.
  • Prior Emergency Department registration experience is preferred.
