Requirements
  • Current NYS license and registration as an RN in good standing required.
  • BSN/BS required, MS preferred.
  • Certification in BLS, First Aid and as a CPR instructor is required, or the ability to become certified soon after hire.
  • Proven understanding of effective learning theories and teaching strategies.
  • Current knowledge of best practice nursing standards and care.
  • Knowledge of DOH and/or other relevant regulations.
  • Experience with state survey process.
  • Ability to lead, guide and motivate others.
  • Ability to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with patients/residents, staff, families and support agencies.
  • Outstanding collaboration skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory and mental impairments.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn new software rapidly.
Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates educational and clinical training programs.
  • Prioritizes in-service training needs with leadership input and approval.
  • Coordinates training across all shifts and serves as instructor for clinical programs.
  • Ensures programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as corporate policies.
  • Creates and maintains training materials and a resource library.
  • Documents staff in-services and clinical competencies regularly and as needed.
  • Maintains CPR, BLS, and First Aid certifications for self and staff.
  • Audits training effectiveness and staff compliance.
  • Assesses and addresses individual staff learning needs with customized programs.
  • Provides clinical direction and follow-up for RNs, LPNs, and HHAs.
  • Maintains Education Department equipment.
  • Assists in developing and revising policies and procedures.
  • Supports QAPI initiatives through training and corrective actions.
  • Participates in and assists with staff orientation programs.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development and promotes best practices.
  • Models compliance and safety behaviors; ensures adherence to policies and code of conduct.
  • Promotes service excellence and respectful relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Fosters a collaborative, team-oriented culture.
  • Participates in train-the-trainer programs as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two (2) years previous teaching experience highly desirable.
  • Two (2) years clinical experience in geriatric setting preferred.
