eBay launches AI shopping agent.

eBay launches AI shopping agent. 21 August 2026 | Comments: 0 Table of Contents hide eBay launches AI shopping agent for personalized product discovery. eBay is expanding its use of artificial intelligence with a new shopping agent designed to provide personalized product recommendations and guidance throughout the buying journey. The AI-powered experience combines agentic AI capabilities with eBay's marketplace scale, technology infrastructure, customer insights and product knowledge. The system is designed to deliver real-time recommendations based on shopping preferences while helping users discover relevant products across the marketplace. At the time of the announcement, the new experience was available to a small percentage of customers in the United States, with eBay planning to expand access on a rolling basis. How eBay's new AI shopping agent works. The shopping agent is designed to appear at different stages of a customer's buying journey. According to eBay, the system can interact with shoppers in two main ways. It can respond directly to a user's request or provide predictive messages inline on the page the customer is currently viewing. This allows AI assistance to become part of the regular shopping experience. For example, eBay says the agent can help users find a suitable gift or assemble products for a particular occasion, providing recommendations based on their shopping preferences. The company describes the system as providing real-time, highly personalized product recommendations and guidance intended to make product discovery easier and more relevant. eBay moves from chatbots to agentic AI. The new shopping experience represents another step in eBay's development of agentic AI. eBay describes this technology as an evolution from simple chatbots toward conversational and interactive agents capable of understanding, interacting with and anticipating user needs. For shoppers, this means AI can play a more active role during product discovery. Instead of responding only to individual questions, the technology can provide assistance as users move through different stages of the buying process. eBay is combining these capabilities with decades of customer insights and product knowledge accumulated through its marketplace. The company sees this combination as an opportunity to improve personalization and automation across its ecommerce experience. Personalized product discovery is a key focus. Personalization is central to eBay's new shopping agent. The system is designed to provide product suggestions and guidance based on a user's shopping preferences. This can be particularly useful for discovery-oriented searches where a customer knows the type of product or outcome they want but has not yet selected a specific item. Rather than limiting the experience to conventional product search, eBay wants the agent to help shoppers explore relevant options as they browse. For eBay, this approach is intended to make product discovery more relevant and tailored to individual customers while streamlining the overall shopping experience. Agentic AI is becoming a larger part of eBay's strategy. The shopping agent is part of eBay's wider investment in AI-powered commerce. The company says it is developing a growing suite of agentic tools and services intended to create secure and highly personalized experiences for customers. eBay also expects AI to become increasingly integrated into the shopping experience over time. The new agent represents an important stage in that development because it brings conversational and predictive AI capabilities directly into the customer buying journey. eBay also views agentic AI as having potential applications across both shopping and selling as the technology continues to develop. eBay is developing the technology with its Responsible AI team. As eBay expands its use of artificial intelligence, the company says its AI-powered features are developed in close collaboration with its Responsible AI team. According to eBay, these features are designed to align with four core principles: safety, fairness, transparency and accountability. The Responsible AI framework therefore forms part of the company's approach as it develops more personalized and interactive AI-powered experiences across its marketplace. The AI shopping agent is starting with US customers. eBay is introducing the new shopping experience gradually rather than releasing it to its entire customer base at once. At the time of the announcement, the AI shopping agent was available to a small percentage of customers in the United States. eBay said it would make the experience available to more users on a rolling basis. The company did not provide a specific timetable for a wider rollout or confirm when the shopping agent would become available to all US customers or users in other countries. This means availability can remain limited while eBay progressively expands access to the new experience. What eBay's AI shopping agent means for customers. For eBay customers, the new shopping agent introduces another way to discover products and receive personalized guidance while browsing the marketplace. The system can respond to direct requests while also providing predictive assistance within the shopping journey. The launch also illustrates eBay's broader direction in AI-powered commerce. The company is moving beyond simple chatbot interactions and developing agentic systems designed to understand and anticipate customer needs while making product discovery more personalized. As eBay continues to develop new ways for customers to discover products, gift cards remain another way to access purchases across the marketplace. Baxity Store offers eBay Gift Cards in selected denominations and currencies, subject to current availability. Before purchasing, customers should check the card's region, currency and redemption requirements to ensure it is suitable for their eBay account.

eBay Authenticity Guarantee expands to include collectible coins. 19 Aug 2026 eBay have announced the expansion of Authenticity Guarantee in the U.S. to a new category: collectible coins. Eligible U.S. and World graded coins and U.S. raw coins purchased at $500 or more will be professionally authenticated at no additional cost to buyers or sellers, giving collectors more confidence when shopping for high-value coins on the marketplace. The expansion marks the next chapter for eBay Authenticity Guarantee, with coins as the second eligible category within eBay's collectibles business. In 2022 eBay launched its Authenticity Guarantee for trading cards to support the booming category, and now collectible coins join a growing ecosystem designed to make high-value collecting on the marketplace more secure. Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), an industry leader in coin grading and authentication services, will provide expert authentication for eligible items. The new service also represents an expanded partnership with Collectors, parent company of PCGS and PSA, and the leading third-party authentication and grading provider in the collectibles industry. New standards for collectible coins. In May 2026 eBay introduced new standardized condition guidelines for collectible coins to help buyers make more informed purchasing decisions. Authenticity, condition, and grading all play a critical role in determining the value of a collectible coin. The new standardized condition information gives collectors greater visibility into a coin's quality before purchase. The opportunity to scale and grow the coin business around the world is significant and plays to eBay's strengths - notably, the marketplace's selection of unique and historic inventory. We've invested in our trading card business and seen fantastic results - and we see the same opportunity with coins. Every coin has a story, and we're making it easier than ever for collectors to buy and sell with confidence while helping preserve the integrity of one of the world's oldest collecting hobbies. - Adam Ireland, VP and General Manager, Global Collectibles, eBay As one of the world's largest marketplaces for collectible coins, eBay offers enthusiasts access to an unmatched selection of historic and rare inventory. Coin-related activity continues to grow on the site, with searches for collectible coins increasing by more than 30% comparing June 2025 to June 2026, and engagement with coin programming on eBay Live also continuing to rise. The addition of Authenticity Guarantee reinforces eBay's commitment to creating a more trusted and seamless experience for collectors. The coin industry is experiencing incredible growth, with PCGS seeing a double-digit increase in collector submissions in 2026. This partnership - pairing one of the largest marketplaces with one of the largest coin authenticators - elevates and protects the hobby for everyone. We're excited to help bring greater confidence to collectors buying and selling online. - Stephanie Sabin, President, PCGS eBay Authenticity Guarantee for coins. When an eligible coin purchase is made, the item is shipped to PCGS for a comprehensive, multi-point physical inspection. Collectors can identify eligible coin listings by looking for eBay's blue Authenticity Guarantee badge on the listing. Once authenticated, the coin is securely packaged and shipped to the buyer, all at no additional cost to either buyer or seller. Details on the coin authentication process include: * Thorough Inspection: Referencing an extensive database, authenticators inspect the coin for authenticity, alongside overall condition and general quality. Each coin is also checked against the listing description to ensure accuracy. * Proof of Authentication: Once authenticated, each coin receives an e-tag, a tamper-proof sticker seal with a unique QR code attached to the coin's protective packaging. Collectors can scan the QR code to learn more about the coin and its authentication journey. * Verified Returns: For sellers who choose to offer returns, eBay Authenticity Guarantee for coins ensures the exact item initially sold is returned to the seller, via a verified return process.
