About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of product management experience shipping complex technical products, including end-to-end product-line ownership; experience spanning hardware and software, real-time or embedded systems, or systems of systems is ideal.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a product end to end as an individual contributor, including vision, roadmap, requirements, prioritization, launch, and iteration against measurable outcomes.
  • Comfort owning a product area and driving cross-functional outcomes through influence rather than managing direct reports.
  • Technical literacy sufficient to engage credibly with engineers on architecture trade-offs, hardware/software integration, interfaces, and data flow, and to make informed scope decisions without managing implementation.
  • Experience defining product strategy for integrating with legacy, proprietary, or closed third-party systems that lack modern software and data interfaces, including deciding what to bridge and how to sequence integration work.
  • Skill in customer and user discovery and translating ambiguous operational problems into clear, prioritized requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous environment and make and defend trade-offs between speed, quality, and scope.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including clear status, risk, and decision communication to senior leadership.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must already hold or be eligible to receive an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance upon onboarding.
Responsibilities
  • Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for DefenseOS, defining how the commercial VehicleOS is adapted into a navy warship operating system and the first instantiation of the broader defense product.
  • Lead customer and user discovery with Navy program offices, operators, and crews, translating operational needs, acquisition requirements, and field constraints into a prioritized product roadmap.
  • Define product strategy for a zonal architecture, including location-based zone controllers and centralized compute replacing a federated, domain-based design; determine how it integrates with defense-unique combat, communications, and HM&E systems built by primes that lack modernized software and data interfaces; decide what to bridge, in what sequence, and where to build versus partner.
  • Write clear requirements, define success metrics, and make prioritization and scope trade-offs that keep engineering focused on high-value, field-relevant work.
  • Partner with engineering, hardware/integration, and operations to sequence delivery across simulation, integration lab, and live-platform testing on unmanned surface vessels and traditional surface combatants.
  • Own trade-offs between speed, quality, and scope under acquisition and field constraints.
  • Work with design to shape operator interfaces and workflows grounded in how crews operate.
  • Partner with defense customers and shipbuilders/integrators as a design-informed product lead, translating their needs into the roadmap.
  • Communicate product strategy, status, risk, and trade-offs to senior leadership and external stakeholders, and provide product input into program and business decisions.
  • Build feedback loops using usage signals, customer input, and program data to justify investment and shape the roadmap over time.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree or deep technical background.
  • Product management or equivalent experience on software-defined vehicles or analogous platforms where a zonal architecture and centralized compute replaced distributed, domain-based controllers.
  • Familiarity with naval/maritime subsystems such as combat, C5I, and HM&E; DoD acquisition and requirements processes; and delivery in regulated environments such as RMF/ATO and IL5/IL6.
  • Prior naval or operational experience.

About the company

Applied Intuition builds software for automakers and operators developing autonomous vehicles and other machines, from passenger cars to industrial equipment. What believers are saying

  • Vehicle software work is expanding: Honda selected Vehicle OS for its next-generation platform in October 2026.
  • Sales reach spans automakers: Applied Intuition says 18 of the world's top 20 manufacturers use its software.
  • Promotion paths have evidence: its Deputy CTO says about 70-80% of management was promoted internally.

What critics are saying

  • Remote flexibility is limited: Applied Intuition tells engineering recruits to work in the office five days weekly.
  • Scaling requires customer engineering: Nissan's common vehicle platform is being built closely with its internal teams.
  • Saudi execution remains demanding: August 2026's HUMAIN plan targets thousands of trucks by 2030 amid heat and sand.

What makes Applied Intuition unique

  • Simulation tools have external validation: Applied Intuition's platform meets TÜV SÜD's VIVALDI requirements for safety-critical virtual testing.
  • Automakers keep software ownership: Porsche's joint development explicitly reduces dependence on black-box suppliers.
  • Military autonomy crosses machines: Acuity coordinates multiple platforms over mesh networks for contested combat environments.
