Electric Metering Technician 1

Description

The individual in this position is responsible for learning the administration of and monitoring the status of the Electric department’s advanced metering infrastructure, SCADA system, and other data systems administered by the Electric department. This position will also go on-site to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair any AMI issues.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)

• Monitor the AMI for the electric utility system.
• Assist in troubleshooting meters and metering communication equipment.
• Assist in repair and replacement of metering equipment as needed.
• Register new meters on the required data systems.
• Coordinate with the Billing department, Customer Service department, and any other utility work groups to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient data services for internal and external stakeholders.
• Learn meter types and how to correctly wire meter services.
• Inspect installed meters and meter bases.
• Assisting with meter exchanges and recording necessary meter information.
• Verify accurate metering and meter reporting.
• Maintain digital and physical records related to asset management.
• Import, export, and review new meter data and existing meter data to ensure data integrity.
• Field check data discrepancies when required.
• Assist in storm restoration when required.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Basic knowledge in MS Office suite, particularly Access and Excel.
• Basic knowledge of electric utility infrastructure is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of database theory and application is preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments/projects and deadlines.
• Good problem definition and solving techniques.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in typical office settings using standard office equipment is required, as well as working outside in the field with GPS equipment on occasion. In addition, vision to read printed materials and computer screens, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. This position’s work environment is both in the office and in the field; the candidate will be exposed to extreme weather conditions and will be, on occasion, required to perform manual tasks. These tasks will include but are not limited to: lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing and walking over rough terrain.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position involves a mix of field and office work. This position will regularly operate company vehicles, such as cars, trucks, or vans, for work-related tasks, and will be required to occasionally work in inclement weather.
