About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, and at least 6 years of relevant experience in commercial product design and development.
  • First-principles understanding of statics, mechanics, materials science, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics, with the ability to apply these rapidly in hand calculations.
  • Extensive experience taking mechanical designs from concept through production, including prototype builds and manufacturing release.
  • Proven experience in Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly, working with manufacturing partners to optimize designs for producibility, assembly, and reliability.
  • Demonstrated experience packaging and integrating electromechanical systems involving both high-voltage and low-voltage electrical components.
  • Proficiency in 3D computer-aided design and thermal and structural finite element analysis tools.
  • Strong hands-on aptitude and comfort working in the lab, on the shop floor, and at the test rig.
  • Experience creating geometric dimensioning and tolerancing-compliant 2D fabrication drawings (ASME Y14.5).
Responsibilities
  • Lead concept development, design trades, and down-select decisions for mechanical subsystems from water purification through post-production hydrogen purification.
  • Own 3D computer-aided design of complex parts and assemblies, including sheet metal, plastics, insulation systems, sealing methods, connectors, and fasteners, using SolidWorks or equivalent.
  • Review and develop process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and mechanical design documentation.
  • Perform first-principles hand calculations for sizing and performance of fluid, thermal, and structural systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical and electronics engineering teams to integrate high-voltage power electronics and low-voltage control, sensing, and communications systems into mechanical enclosures.
  • Design packaging solutions for high-voltage electrical assemblies, including bus bars, power modules, and high-current connectors, ensuring proper insulation, creepage and clearance compliance, and thermal management.
  • Design and validate cooling technologies, including heat exchangers and forced-air systems, for thermal management of electrolyzer stacks, power electronics, and ancillary electrical components.
  • Ensure enclosure designs meet relevant electrical safety standards (UL, IEC, NFPA) for high-voltage systems handling DC bus voltages typical of PEM electrolysis applications.
  • Define and manage interface control documents between mechanical and electrical subsystems.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineering to apply Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles from concept through production release.
  • Create and maintain Balance-of-Plant documentation, including Bills of Materials, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and fluid system specifications.
  • Develop test plans and lead laboratory testing and validation activities to confirm product reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Create and maintain product lifecycle management documentation, including Bills of Materials, engineering drawings, design calculations, and failure mode and effects analyses.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience with PEM electrolysis, fuel cell systems, or related electrochemical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, or other high-purity gas systems, including pressure management, material selection (316L stainless steel, PTFE, PEEK), and leak testing.
  • Experience with water purification technologies (deionization, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis) and post-production gas purification.
  • Multi-physics and computational fluid dynamics simulation experience (ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, or similar).
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards relevant to high-voltage systems: UL 508A, IEC 60204, and NFPA 70E.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management systems for Bills of Materials and drawing management.

About the company

Fourier Earth provides engineering services and scalable clean energy solutions for governments, large corporations, and sustainability-focused organizations to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. It develops practical energy technologies and deploys them at scale through consulting, project delivery, and licensing of its proprietary technologies. It differentiates itself with hands-on, large-scale implementation and direct work with governments and major organizations, moving from planning to full deployment and licensing rather than focusing on small pilots. Its goal is to enable a global transition to affordable, distributable clean energy that reduces carbon footprints and benefits society.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • June 2026 Gujarat pilot with Payal Industrial Park expands international commercial credibility.
  • LinkedIn postings in 2026 show hiring across manufacturing, process, and thermal systems.
  • Fourier is moving from stealth to commercial validation with pilots across chemicals and energy storage.

What critics are saying

  • Electric Hydrogen, Hysata, and Nel Hydrogen attack the same electrolyzer market.
  • Fourier still depends on pilots; Gujarat and 2025 deployments have not proven scale economics.
  • If commercial reliability slips, customers will choose established industrial gas suppliers instead.

What makes Fourier unique

  • Fourier sells modular on-site hydrogen production, avoiding centralized plants and delivery logistics.
  • April 2025 Series A brought General Catalyst, Paramark Ventures, and Airbus Ventures validation.
  • Its product targets industrial clusters needing continuous, cost-effective hydrogen storage and supply.
