Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • ASCP eligibility.
  • One year of clinical laboratory training.
  • Ability to perform waived, moderate, and highly complex laboratory tests.
  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
  • Ability to perform quality control testing, troubleshoot instrumentation, and document corrective actions.
  • Ability to accurately document laboratory results, critical values, quality assurance data, and instrument records.
  • Ability to handle, store, ship, accession, and select appropriate testing for laboratory specimens.
  • Ability to use laboratory information systems, instrumentation, and computer downtime procedures.
  • Ability to work evening and night shifts across the network as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory tests according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation according to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform quality control testing and document corrective action.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation with the aid of consulting technical services and document the work properly.
  • Document laboratory results in the laboratory information system, instrument records, and other quality assurance data.
  • Report and document critical values according to established policies.
  • Teach and train new employees and assist with competency assessment.
  • Monitor supply inventory, order supplies as necessary, and prevent wastage caused by product expiration.
  • Assist the send-out bench with test selection and referral-laboratory specimen requirements for collection, handling, storage, and shipping.
  • Accession specimens as necessary.
  • Implement computer downtime procedures when necessary.
  • Demonstrate competency in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Organize and prioritize the daily workload and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Handle multiple assignments and adapt to changes.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with co-workers to promote a productive working environment.
  • Convey necessary information accurately, listen effectively, ask pertinent questions, and perform AIDET.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
