What Could send Avis Budget stock higher?

What Could send Avis Budget stock higher? October 21st, 2026 · by Trefis Team CARYTD-23.3% SPYYTD+14.0% XLIYTD+9.1% For questions about this article or underlying research, email [email protected]. Shares of Avis Budget (CAR) have fallen 85.7% from their April high. That peak was brief, with the stock dropping 38% and then 48% over the next two trading days. The company's total debt equals 805% of its market value, compared with 19.7% for the S&P 500. Management expects a large cash payment by year-end, however, and has said part of that money will pay off debt. So where is that cash coming from, and how sure is it? Avis Budget Expects $650 Million From Pentwater On the company's July 29, 2026 call, management said Pentwater agreed to pay Avis Budget $650 million in cash under a settlement related to short-swing profits. Management expects the matter to be resolved by year-end. The deal still needs final court approval. Management has also outlined what part of the cash is for. In May, Avis Budget used new notes due in 2031 to cut its notes due in 2027 from $650 million to $350 million. The company plans to retire that remainder by year-end with part of the Pentwater proceeds. Questions like this one test every retirement plan. If your advisor recently retired, it is a good moment for a free second opinion from our partner firm. Is $650 Million Enough To Bring Avis Budget's Leverage Down? Not on its own. The payment equals about 18% of Avis Budget's $3.6 billion market value, a large sum for a company of its size. Against total debt of $29.1 billion, however, it comes to about 2%. Management's leverage goal counts only net corporate debt, which is a smaller part of that total. The business has to help. Higher earnings lower the leverage ratio management is targeting just as repaying debt does. The company's net corporate leverage ratio, measuring debt against adjusted EBITDA, stood at 7.4 times on the July call. Management expects to cut it by at least a full turn by the end of 2026, and reiterated its full-year adjusted EBITDA guide of $850 million to $1 billion. The business is moving the right way so far. Avis Budget reported operating income of $572 million over the twelve months to June 2026, compared with an operating loss of $170 million a year earlier. The shares have not followed. Over the year to October 20, 2026, they lost 31.9% while the S&P 500 returned 17.1%. What Could Keep Avis Budget's Leverage High? Soft travel demand and car recalls are the risks to those earnings. On the July call, management said strategic accounts declined 10% from a year earlier, dropping more than the company had planned. In June, TSA check-ins also fell 1.3% from a year earlier. Recalls added to the pressure. Three carmakers notified Avis Budget of new recalls in April 2026, leaving about 18,000 of its vehicles grounded in total. Management put the direct cost of recalls in 2026 at more than $50 million up to the July call, before lost profit. Even so, management expects adjusted EBITDA to grow from a year earlier in the third quarter, the period Avis Budget reports next. The Pentwater cash is agreed upon and waits only on the court, while the earnings needed to bring leverage down must arrive despite softer travel and grounded cars. Avis Budget's third-quarter adjusted EBITDA is the number to watch in its next report, expected on or around November 3, 2026. Your Advisor Retired? Avis posts record 73.2% fleet utilisation on a smaller fleet, but debt and a 72% stock slide persist

Avis Budget (CAR) is renting out more of a smaller fleet, but the stock has lost 72% in six months, against a 14.0% gain for the S&P 500. The company lost money over the last twelve months. Its Americas fleet in the second quarter of 2026 was 5.4% smaller than a year earlier, a deliberate cut to favour profit over market share. Utilisation reached 73.2%, a second-quarter record. Adjusted EBITDA in the Americas rose 7.7% while revenue fell 1.9%. Debt remains heavy: 785.4% of market value, with a net corporate leverage ratio of 7.4 times. Avis received $650 million in October 2026 from a settlement with Pentwater and plans to use part of it to retire its remaining 2027 notes. Demand is weaker. Americas rental days fell 2.1%, and International adjusted EBITDA dropped 11%.

Melbourne-Born dashback takes lost property returns global.

Melbourne-Born dashback takes lost property returns global. The Melbourne-Founded Service Transforming How Hotels Reunite Guests With Forgotten Belongings Is Preparing To Take Its Australian Success Overseas Dashback is the Melbourne-founded service making it easier for hotel guests to get back the belongings they leave behind. Working with courier partners including Mail Plus, and Pack and Send, the platform gives hotels a fast, hands-off way to return lost items, while giving guests a simple, one-click way to get them back, both domestically and internationally. Founded in 2022 by Andy Brain, Dashback has grown from a single idea into a national operation, now working with more than 300 hotels across Australia and handling more than 1,000 returns each month. With an international returns service now live, the business is preparing for its first offshore launch in New Zealand * The Guest contacts the hotel asking about their lost item. * The hotel checks the PMS and if they have the item, directs the guest to dashback.com.au. * The guest enters their details and payment on the site. * Dashback sends the hotel a pickup alert for one of its courier partners. * Dashback confirms the pickup with the guest and sends a tracking code. The item is delivered to the guest the next business day. Dashback began as an idea Andy Brain shared with his late business partner and friend, Jake Kogakis for moving urgent items between cities. That idea never found traction, but it led Andy to the real problem: lost property. Andy put on a suit and cold-called hotels down Collins Street, and by the time he reached the Westin Melbourne, the story had flipped: hotels were losing hours chasing guests who had checked out and gone home, and what they needed was a simple way to get items back to them. The guest arranges and pays, and the hotel does little more than print a label. "I get as excited switching on a 40-room hotel as I do a 400-room one. Hotels now come to us before they have even opened, so Dashback is running from day one. It is becoming the first port of call for lost property across the sector, and the fact that we are still here and growing every week, four years on, still amazes me." Dashback's network now spans boutique hotels through to major properties including W Sydney, The Langham, The Ritz-Carlton Perth, Crown Promenade and Crown Metropol in Melbourne. Dashback also holds national partnerships with car-rental operators Avis Budget and Europcar, and has earned five-star reviews from industry bodies including Les Clefs d'Or, the invitation-only international association of hotel concierges. "Some doors take longer to open than others," Andy said. "We spent three years talking to Meriton before going live across all 24 of their properties, and that patience is how this business has grown, one relationship at a time." "There's a hotel version of this story everywhere you look: a lost watch, a set of keys, a kid's toy that a whole family is losing sleep over," Andy said. "We built Dashback so hotels could hand that problem to us, and guests could get on with their day instead of chasing an item down themselves." Next up is New Zealand, where Dashback will launch with Pack and Send at the start of 2027, with plans to expand through Pack and Send's global network from there.
