About the job

Requirements
  • MD with expertise in technical innovation and data science, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 14+ years of combined clinical practice and device or digital health work experience.
  • 3+ years of patient care experience focused on lifestyle and preventative medicine.
  • Experience building or deploying products within healthcare, digital health, or consumer health applications.
  • Excellent understanding of human physiology across health and wellness conditions.
  • Experience working with or advising digital health-focused startups.
  • Experience working cross-functionally across Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Clinical teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of physicians and clinical consultants supporting Digital Health Research, with dotted-line relationships to the programs in which they are embedded.
  • Advise on clinical and physiologic endpoint criteria at biosensor and algorithm maturity gates.
  • Advise on any feature that makes or implies a health claim, including features originating in Digital Health Research or Product, and remain the accountable clinical reviewer through launch for research transitioning into Product.
  • Advise on intended use, indications, and clinical claims language before external release, in partnership with Regulatory Affairs and Quality.
  • Own and manage the clinical workstream for the AI health assistant end to end, including content and knowledge-base design, evaluation, and iteration against deployed performance.
  • Define what the AI health assistant is clinically permitted to say for each use case, when it must defer to a clinician, how it handles red-flag presentations, and the clinical acceptance criteria required before release.
  • Partner with the GenAI engineering team to translate clinical standards into system behavior, and direct physicians and clinical consultants who author, review, and grade assistant outputs.
  • Own clinical direction across the AI coaching portfolio, including the physiologic reasoning behind recommendations, clinical breadth and reach, and advice boundaries for each user profile.
  • Work with the product team to ensure coaching content is evidence-grounded and matched to user risk.
  • Set the clinical oversight model for deployed models, including pre-launch review, post-launch monitoring, and rollback triggers; direct consultants advising on specialty criteria for the AI coach.
  • Define appropriate early algorithm endpoints for potential productization, such as biomarker type, and set algorithm maturity go/no-go criteria with the algorithms team based on performance against clinically relevant endpoints.
  • Advise on product requirements, use-case-specific product claims, and portfolio prioritization for SaMD and wellness products.
  • Determine the clinical and user-experience measures included in product requirements to minimize harm and maximize health benefits.
  • Advise on study design for research across Sponsored Research, algorithms, and biosensor work, including protocol development, IRB approval, and medical monitoring as needed.
  • Ensure studies are standardized against appropriate references and accepted study designs.
  • Allocate clinical capacity across programs, set priorities, and decide which work the clinical function accepts or declines.
  • Define and execute a hiring plan for additional clinical domain expertise as supported clinical areas expand.
  • Contribute the clinical perspective to Digital Health Research strategy and communications for senior leadership, and represent clinical science in strategic task force initiatives.
  • Engage external principal investigators and thought leaders for consulting, research principal investigator support, and advisory board involvement to source external clinical expertise.
  • Represent Samsung’s digital health research in public forums and develop industry and academic collaboration with university centers.
