- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program, as required by the state, is required.
- Certification issued by the National Healthcareer Association or the American Association of Medical Assistants is required.
- Basic Life Support certification is required according to individual ambulatory surgery center policy.
- Assist with the patient admission process.
- Collect patient information, including family medical histories.
- Take patients’ vital signs, such as blood pressure and heart rate.
- Help patients dress or undress and use the bathroom as needed.
- Turn or reposition patients who are confined to a bed.
- Assist patients with food and hydration.
- Clean rooms, make beds, and stock supplies.
- Perform basic medical tasks, including wound care and catheter care.
- Assist with patient transfers and discharges.
- Monitor patients for signs of illness or infection.
- Demonstrate an understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and other center functions.
- Maintain current and accurate documentation of patient care to support information integration for the healthcare team and quality care.
- Follow the center’s exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Problem-solve in stressful situations and work environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience in an ambulatory surgery center is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of Certified Medical Assistant experience is preferred.
