About the job

Requirements
  • Be a strong writer with good taste and sharp judgment.
  • Understand that career decisions are identity decisions and write with that perspective.
  • Be genuinely motivated by Valon's work rebuilding financial infrastructure.
  • Be able to write in another person's voice convincingly.
  • Work across mediums and make complicated subjects clear without oversimplifying them.
  • Have served as the primary or founding brand or editorial voice somewhere, with demonstrable results such as engineers sharing the work or candidates applying because of it.
  • Be comfortable creating the playbook without an existing template.
  • Measure outcomes such as offer acceptance rates and pipeline rather than reach and impressions.
  • Have approximately 6 to 10 years of experience, as indicated for the role.
Responsibilities
  • Develop a clear explanation of what Valon is building, why it is difficult, and why candidates should care; create reusable messaging for candidates and outside audiences, supporting stories and metrics, and clear explanations of why people join.
  • Write founder essays and posts in the founders' voice, company updates and longer memos, employee and team stories, product and technical stories for wider audiences, and candidate-facing materials explaining the company and its work.
  • Identify compelling material within the company and write it in a human voice rather than as a press release.
  • Build relationships with relevant writers, podcasters, and newsletter authors, and pitch stories that can earn coverage.
  • Create recruiting tools to communicate the company's story, including a 'Why Valon' deck, candidate FAQs and offer-stage materials, role-specific pitch materials, and responses to candidate concerns.
  • Learn what excites candidates, where they hesitate, and what helps them accept offers.
  • Determine which company events, people, and proof points should be shared externally and select an appropriate format, while protecting the signal and deciding what should not be published.
  • Build a repeatable storytelling process by drawing ideas from founders and teams, interviewing people, identifying stories early, turning milestones into compelling material, publishing regularly without heavy process, and tracking what influences candidates.
  • Work regularly in person at the New York City office, using judgment about where work is best done and attending in person when the work requires it.
Desired Qualifications
  • Potentially relevant backgrounds include brand or content work at a consumer company, journalism or entertainment, founder communications, or a writing-heavy operator role; the background matters less than the ability to find and communicate compelling stories.

About the company

Valon builds ValonOS, software that runs mortgage servicing, the behind-the-scenes work of collecting home loan payments and handling missed ones, with AI agents built into a single system. Unusually for a software maker, it built ValonOS by running its own licensed mortgage servicer, then sold that business to Carrington Mortgage Services in 2026. The system keeps each loan's records, payments, tasks, and audit trail in one place, and its AI agents answer homeowner emails, apply payments, and review escrow accounts for taxes and insurance under the same controls. Servicers pay Valon recurring fees to run their loans on it. Valon was founded in 2019 and is based in New York City.

What believers are saying

  • Equity is gaining value: Valon's October 2026 funding round valued it at $2.3 billion, double its previous price.
  • Demand came fast: six months of outside sales brought over $200 million in yearly contracts, Valon reported in October 2026.
  • Small team, big scope: about 320 employees build the software contracted to run one in six US mortgages.

What critics are saying

  • The incumbent still wins banks: in September 2026, Wells Fargo committed all its home loans to rival ICE's servicing system.
  • Big wins go live slowly: servicer Newrez signed in February 2026, but its 4 million loans start moving in 2027.
  • Expect messy, cross-team work: Valon's careers page calls it "a hard place" and warns off anyone wanting a ready-made playbook.

What makes Valon unique

  • A key customer is also an owner: Rithm Capital, parent of servicer Newrez, has backed Valon since its founding.
  • It proved its software on its own loans: Valon says its servicer ran 60%-plus operating margins, versus near zero industry-wide.
  • AI access is earned: since July 2026, most non-engineer hires start without AI until managers trust them to catch errors.

Valon raises $150M Series D at $2.3B valuation to deploy AI mortgage platform to 1 in 6 US homes

Valon Technologies has raised $150 million in Series D funding at a $2.3 billion valuation, doubling its previous valuation. Ribbit Capital joined as a new investor, with participation from existing backers including Andreessen Horowitz. The company has developed ValonOS, an AI-native operating system for mortgage servicing that replaces legacy mainframe systems. Within six months of launching, Valon secured over $200 million in contracted annual recurring revenue. ValonOS will power one in six outstanding US mortgages, with clients including Newrez, Carrington Mortgage Services, and ServiceMac. Two of the ten largest US servicers are already live on the platform. Founded in 2019, Valon initially built and operated its own full-scale servicing business before offering ValonOS to the industry. The funding will accelerate product development and expand deployment to major servicers. The company plans to expand beyond mortgage into commercial, personal, auto, and student lending sectors.

The Y Combinator Winter 2026 company launched its automated processing engine in June 2026. Carrington selects ValonOS as core platform and acquires Valon Mortgage's 800,000 loans

Carrington Mortgage Services, a leading Ginnie Mae servicer, has formed a strategic partnership with Valon Technologies to adopt ValonOS as its core servicing platform. As part of the agreement, Carrington will acquire Valon Mortgage in collaboration with a private equity partner, adding approximately 800,000 loans to its portfolio. ValonOS is an AI-native operating system designed to consolidate workflows, loan data and compliance logic for mortgage servicing. The partnership combines Carrington's government lending expertise with Valon's modern technology platform to enhance efficiency in Ginnie Mae servicing. For Valon, which has raised over $290 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, the transaction allows the company to shift focus from operating as a mortgage servicer to becoming a technology provider for the broader mortgage industry.
