Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
  • A current, valid, unencumbered, and unrestricted registered nurse license in the state of Ohio is required.
  • At least two years of experience practicing as a registered nurse is required.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate effective learning in the classroom and/or clinical setting for Kettering College Division of Nursing students.
  • Plan students’ clinical experiences and evaluate students’ performance in alignment with expected curriculum outcomes.
  • Implement clinical objectives or outcomes within the framework of the course in which the student is enrolled.
  • Communicate clinical objectives or outcomes to the course coordinator, student, clinical-site staff, and preceptor when utilized.
  • Assign clinical experiences based on course objectives, the student’s level of ability, and the student’s learning needs.
  • Orient students to the clinical site.
  • Supervise students for patient and clinical-environment safety and effective student learning.
  • Evaluate students’ experiences, achievement, and progress in relation to clinical objectives or outcomes.
  • Maintain a faculty-to-student ratio for direct patient-care experiences of no more than 1:10, or 1:12 for precepted classes.
  • Collaborate with and orient preceptors to ensure they are competent and prepared for the role.
  • Facilitate communication between the preceptor, student, and instructor.
  • Provide preceptors with orientation information regarding the program of study and the roles of the student, preceptor, and instructor.
  • Be available to preceptors and students for assistance and clarification through rounds, phone, or pager.
  • Serve as a resource for issues surrounding students’ professional development.
  • Objectively and subjectively evaluate students’ performance, incorporating feedback from preceptors.
  • Meet professional obligations, including office hours, deadlines, required documents, clinical hours, student appointments, adjunct faculty workshops, and updates.
  • Use evidence-based clinical teaching approaches and remain knowledgeable about the nursing curriculum.
  • Design workflow to facilitate service to students.
  • Participate regularly in appropriate meetings and faculty development activities, including those sponsored by the College, Medical Center, and professional organizations.
  • Anticipate and adapt to change and effect change when appropriate.
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures and use college resources efficiently.
  • Complete all mandatory education and clinical competencies.
  • Routinely evaluate learning needs, continuously improve outcomes, and stay professionally current.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
