Requirements
  • A Master's degree is required; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The ability to think critically and solve problems independently is required.
  • The ability to stay organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canvas is required.
  • Stamina to teach classes as required is required.
  • The ability to stand or sit for extended periods is required.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Depending on the Art and Design sub-discipline, proficiency with relevant technology, including Adobe software, may be necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars.
  • Clearly communicate learning goals and assessment methods, organize course sessions, and provide opportunities for reflection, discussion, and application.
  • Develop students' adaptive thinking and problem-solving skills through examples, illustrations, questioning, instructional adjustment, and guided problem solving.
  • Provide feedback on tests and assignments and use assessment results to offer additional help or extended learning opportunities.
  • Establish a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Hold classes as scheduled and start and end classes punctually.
  • Follow university policies, procedures, and rules and report violations or inappropriate conduct that cannot be resolved through normal faculty intervention.
  • Distribute the syllabus to each enrolled student by the first class meeting.
  • Follow the established course schedule and provide written notice of substantial changes when needed.
  • Require use of course texts to an extent that warrants purchase.
  • Provide reasonable and timely assistance with course assignments and assessments.
  • Administer an exam or other evaluative activity during the scheduled final examination time for every course.
  • Determine final grades according to the syllabus.
  • Mentor students by promoting volunteer opportunities, conducting research, providing curricular enhancements or extensions, tutoring, supporting résumé-building initiatives, promoting responsible citizenship and leadership opportunities, connecting students with university resources, helping students solve problems or adapt their thinking, and promoting healthy and ethical lifestyles.
  • Serve as a professional example.
  • Complete other requirements requested by the dean.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and creative endeavors that contribute to the university's academic mission.
  • Supervise laboratories, independent study activities, practicums, internships, and other off-campus learning.
  • Participate in shared governance, university events and initiatives, co-curricular activities, and recruiting.
  • Coordinate work behavior with colleagues and participate in collaborative university activities.
