Brake reveals winners of UK Fleet Champions Awards 2026. Organisations and individuals championing safer roads have been recognised for their outstanding work at Brake's UK Fleet Champions Awards 2026. Held last night (Wednesday 30 September 2026) at New Dock Hall at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, the event brought together more than 300 people from across the fleet sector to reveal the winners and runners-up of 12 awards. A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the winner of the Kevin Storey Award for Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety. This special award is given every year to someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their commitment to road safety, not just within their organisation but through the wider community. This year's winner, Vicki McCarthy from VolkerRail, has demonstrated a profound and sustained commitment to road safety after the death of her 16-year-old daughter in a crash in 2014. Alongside a professional role as a training coordinator for a large fleet, McCarthy has become a powerful advocate for road safety - delivering talks and sharing her lived experience to help people understand the real-world consequences of unsafe driving, particularly among young drivers. The award was presented in memory of McCarthy's daughter, Jordanna. McCarthy took to the stage to receive her award to a standing ovation - the audience visibly moved by her win and her heartfelt acceptance speech. McCarthy said: "I've missed out on so many opportunities and so many memories. I will never get the opportunity to plump my daughter's wedding dress. I don't want another parent to be in my shoes, living my heartache, my nightmare. And that is why I do what I do. I can only say thank you to [the people] who have stood beside me in my darkest moments, in the grief. This is an absolute honour. Thank you." McCarthy received her award from Marcus Bray, sales director at Fleet Service GB. In a fitting full-circle moment, Marcus's father - Fleet Service GB chairman Geoffrey Bray - was a recipient of the exact same award back in 2009. VolkerRail also picked up the title for Company Driver Safety - Large, while Greggs achieved a double win, clinching the Small Fleet version alongside the prestigious Dr Will Murray Award for Analysis and Action. Other winners included Samsara, which claimed the Fleet Safety Technology Innovation Award, while TTC Group & Kier Group took the Fleet Safety Partnership Award, along with Vodafone Automotive & United Utilities. The Fleet Team of the Year Award went to Whistl while the Road Risk Manager of the Year Award was presented to Ray Cowpe from Arriva Northwest & Wales. In total, 51 organisations and individuals were shortlisted for their outstanding commitment to road safety. The winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges from across the fleet industry. Brake's CEO Ross Moorlock commented: "The organisations being recognised tonight are not simply collecting awards plaques; they are setting benchmarks for an entire sector. They are proving that road safety and business performance go hand in hand. And they are demonstrating that protecting people is not a compliance exercise; it is a leadership responsibility." Moorlock also highlighted that road safety is fundamentally a human issue, with real people at the heart of business decisions and performance, and behind road collision statistics. He brought to the crowd's attention the fact that in 2025, nearly one-third of all road deaths - an estimated 445 people - involved somebody who was driving for work. He went on to acknowledge the Government's Road Safety Strategy that was published in January, but added that there is urgency in translating targets into meaningful change. "Strategies do not save lives," he said. "Action saves lives. Investment saves lives. Leadership saves lives." Moorlock told the audience that Brake's National Road Victim Service is currently supporting around 1,000 people across the UK whose lives have been devastated by road death and injury, with an estimated 2,000 new referrals into the service this year alone. He also spoke of Brake's work providing police forces across the UK with specialist bereavement boxes and property bags so that when someone dies on the road, their belongings can be returned to their family with compassion and dignity. Moorlock said: "We continue to do all of this without any central government funding across England and Wales. We remain incredibly grateful to the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland for their commitment to supporting road crash victims in Scotland. But elsewhere, everything I have described tonight exists because of our funders, partners, sponsors and fundraising evenings exactly like this one." For the third consecutive year, Driving for Better Business by National Highways was Brake's delivery partner, while fleet telematics provider Quartix was the headline sponsor for this year's awards. A further 10 fleet suppliers and organisations sponsored individual award categories. Samsara trades near $40, roughly 88% of its 52-week high, with shares up just 1.3% over the past year against 17% for the S&P 500. The company sells AI capabilities through hardware-based subscriptions, with cameras and related services driving demand. More than 20% of Samsara's net new contract value came from emerging products like AI Multicam and AI Dash Cams in each of the last three quarters. The company crossed $2.1 billion in annual recurring revenue in fiscal Q2 2027, up 30% year-over-year. Samsara expects free cash flow margin about 100 basis points below fiscal 2026 due to upfront hardware costs, whilst raising its non-GAAP operating margin guide to 21% from 20%. Management views operating margin as a better forward indicator once supply chains normalise.
How PermiShare integrates with Samsara: roster sync and driver offboarding explained. Discover how PermiShare's integration with Samsara streamlines permit book management. Samsara is a telematics and fleet operations platform focused on GPS tracking, ELD compliance, dash cams, and vehicle diagnostics. It is not a document management system for permits, registrations, or driver qualification files. PermiShare's native Samsara integration pulls your vehicle, trailer, and driver lists directly into your compliance platform and keeps them current automatically, including removing access for drivers who leave the fleet. If your fleet already runs Samsara and you're evaluating PermiShare, here's exactly what the integration does, what it doesn't do, and what to confirm before you connect the two. What Samsara does and doesn't cover. Samsara's core strength is vehicle and driver telematics: GPS location, hours-of-service logging via ELD, vehicle diagnostics, dash cam footage, and safety scoring based on driving behavior. It's built to answer "where is this truck, how is this driver performing, and is this vehicle in good mechanical shape." What Samsara is not built for is document compliance, managing permits, IRP cab cards, IFTA licenses, insurance certificates, and driver qualification files. Samsara doesn't store, distribute, or track expiration of these documents. That's a different workflow entirely, and it's the gap a digital permit book is built to fill. What the PermiShare + Samsara integration actually syncs. PermiShare's Samsara integration syncs three things: * Vehicle list. Your trucks in Samsara populate automatically in PermiShare, so your compliance portal reflects your actual active equipment without manual re-entry. * Trailer list. Same for trailers - no separate data entry in a second system. * Driver list. Active drivers in Samsara are synced into PermiShare, so new hires are available in the compliance platform without your safety team adding them twice. What the integration does not do is auto-assign compliance documents to a specific driver or vehicle. That assignment is still made deliberately by your driver in the PermiShare app, which keeps control of document distribution exactly where it belongs. The part most integrations miss: automatic access removal. This is where many fleet software integrations fall short, and where the operational risk is highest. When a driver leaves your fleet and is marked inactive in Samsara, PermiShare automatically removes that driver's access to the platform. They can no longer view or download any compliance documents through the app. This matters more than it might seem at first. A driver who has left your fleet but still has an active login to your compliance platform can access your current insurance certificates, IRP cab cards, registration documents, and carrier information. Beyond the data exposure concern, it creates a paper trail problem if a former driver produces one of your documents in a context you haven't authorized. Manual offboarding processes are one of the most reliably skipped steps in fleet operations. Often drivers leave quickly, sometimes without notice, and updating a compliance system is rarely the first thing on anyone's checklist during a turnover event. Tying access removal to the action that already has to happen in Samsara (marking the driver inactive) closes that gap without adding a separate step. What the integration does not do. The integration syncs your roster lists and handles access management, it doesn't turn Samsara into a document repository, and it doesn't push compliance documents based on vehicle or driver assignments automatically. Your safety team still controls which documents are distributed and to whom through PermiShare's portal. The integration's job is making sure the people and equipment in the portal match what's actually in your fleet, and that the door closes automatically when someone walks out. Questions to ask before connecting any compliance platform to Samsara. * What data actually syncs, and in which direction? Roster lists (vehicles, trailers, drivers) are the minimum useful bar. Confirm specifically what transfers - not just "we integrate with Samsara." * How is driver offboarding handled? This is the question most buyers don't think to ask. Does marking a driver inactive in Samsara automatically remove their access to the compliance platform, or is that a separate manual step? * Is the integration native or middleware-dependent? Native integrations are generally more reliable and have fewer points of failure than connecting two platforms through a third-party middleware tool. * How often does data sync? A nightly batch sync means a driver added this morning might not appear in the compliance platform until the next day. Know the cadence before you rely on it. * What happens if Samsara has an outage or API change? Ask how sync failures are surfaced - does the platform alert your team, or does it fail silently? Where this fits into your overall fleet tech stack. Most fleets running Samsara are also running a TMS for dispatch and load management, separately from compliance document distribution. The realistic goal of any integration isn't replacing one tool with another, it's reducing the number of places a safety manager has to manually maintain the same roster data. The fewer systems require separate updates, the fewer places driver and vehicle records can quietly drift out of sync and the fewer compliance gaps that creates. How PermiShare connects with Samsara. PermiShare's Samsara integration syncs your vehicle, trailer, and driver lists automatically, and removes driver access to PermiShare the moment they're marked inactive in Samsara all without requiring a separate offboarding step in your compliance system. Faq. Does Samsara store permits, registrations, or insurance documents? No. Samsara is built for telematics, ELD compliance, and vehicle diagnostics - it doesn't function as a document management or distribution system for permits or compliance files. Does the Samsara integration automatically assign documents to drivers or vehicles? No. The integration syncs your vehicle, trailer, and driver lists into PermiShare - document assignment is still handled by your safety or compliance team through the PermiShare portal, keeping that control deliberate rather than automatic. What happens to a driver's PermiShare access when they leave the fleet? When a driver is marked inactive in Samsara, PermiShare automatically removes their access. They can no longer log in or view any compliance documents through the app - no separate offboarding step required in PermiShare. Can I use PermiShare without Samsara? Yes. Samsara integration is a convenience that reduces duplicate data entry and automates offboarding for fleets already using Samsara; it isn't a requirement for using PermiShare. What happens to my compliance data if I switch telematics providers away from Samsara? Your compliance documents and records remain fully intact in PermiShare regardless of telematics provider - the integration syncs roster data, but your document library isn't dependent on Samsara to function. Is the Samsara integration included in the base price, or is it an add-on? Ask directly when evaluating any vendor - integration pricing varies. Confirm whether it's included at your pricing tier or requires an upgrade before comparing quotes. PermiShare
Samsara launches Driver Perks program with discounts from over 50 brands. Samsara Driver Perks will offer discounts across food, fitness, wellness, travel and other categories, with the company planning to expand the program beyond the U.S. · Thursday, September 10, 2026 Samsara is launching a free perks program for professional drivers, giving millions in its network access to discounts and offers, from more than 50 brands. The program, called Samsara Driver Perks, is available to professional drivers in the U.S. beginning Thursday, Sept. 10, and includes offers covering food and beverage, fitness, wellness, travel and personal development. Drivers can access the program through the Samsara Driver App, a direct web link or a QR code distributed by participating organizations. The program is free for drivers and the fleets they work for. Samsara said it plans to expand Driver Perks to other parts of the world other than America. The initial group of participating brands includes Truck Parking Club, Farmers Insurance, A-Premium Auto Parts, 24 Hour Fitness, Crunch Fitness, Audible, BetterHelp and BetterSleep. Each participating company determines its own discount or offer terms. Drivers redeem the offers directly through the participating brands rather than through Samsara. The offers span both work-related expenses and activities outside of driving. Truck Parking Club and A-Premium Auto Parts are among the options more directly tied to life on the road, while fitness, wellness and entertainment brands offer benefits that drivers can use away from work. The program is available to long-haul truck drivers, last-mile delivery drivers and passenger transit workers within Samsara's network. That gives the program a broader audience than trucking alone, although many of the participating offers are relevant to drivers who spend extended periods on the road. Some of the offers address issues specific to professional drivers. Truck Parking Club, for example, provides access to reservable truck parking locations. The company said it has more than 6,500 reservable parking locations across all 50 states. "Drivers lose hours every week looking for parking," Evan Shelley, co-founder and CEO of Truck Parking Club, said in the program announcement. "We give drivers a new option to park safely, legally and efficiently." Samsara said it developed Driver Perks with input from professional drivers through its Driver Council, an advisory board that provides feedback on the company's products. The company also surveyed drivers across its network about the types of products and services they would find useful. Fitness and wellness ranked as the category drivers were most interested in, with 64% selecting it. Food and beverage followed at 58%, while 51% identified learning and personal development as an area of interest. Samsara said the survey results helped determine which offers would be included in the program. Jerome Jolly, a driver at Ryan Logistics who has been driving for more than 40 years, said the range of offers was one of the program's most appealing features. "I know drivers with all kinds of interests and can see them getting a lot out of it," Jolly said in a statement. "It's something I'll use to save money on what I already buy and try a few new things." Samsara's core business is selling technology to fleets, including tools for managing vehicles, equipment and workers. Drivers are among the people who interact with that technology on a daily basis. Driver Perks extends that relationship beyond the fleet's day-to-day operations by giving drivers access to benefits when they are not working. "We've spent more than a decade building technology to help keep drivers safe and efficient on the road," Johan Land, chief product officer at Samsara, said in a statement. "Driver Perks is about recognizing them for that work in a way that's practical and real." The program is also available to fleets at no cost. That allows carriers to offer the discounts to drivers without having to create and administer their own rewards program. Drivers do not have to pay to access the program, and fleets do not have to purchase a separate service to make the offers available to their drivers. Samsara said the program is intended to evolve as it receives additional feedback from drivers and adds participating brands. Lon Ingram, director of safety and risk management at All Aboard America, said the program gives fleets another way to support their drivers. "Our drivers carry the most precious cargo there is: people," Ingram said in a statement. "They put so much into their work every day, and they deserve to feel supported and recognized." Samsara said it plans to add more brands and offers to Driver Perks over time. The company also plans to expand the program beyond the U.S. Why this matters: Samsara is expanding beyond the fleet technology it normally sells by giving drivers benefits they can use outside of work. The move gives Samsara another way to stay connected with drivers, who are the people using its technology every day. It also shows how fleet technology companies are looking for ways to build stronger relationships with drivers, not just the fleets that buy their software. For carriers, the program offers another no-cost benefit they can provide to drivers without having to create their own rewards program.
