About the Job

Requirements

  • A degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics and at least 8 years of prior relevant experience are required.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in the design, analysis, simulation, and/or testing of linear converters is required.
  • Experience with non-isolated converter topologies such as buck, boost, or buck-boost is required.
  • Experience designing, analyzing, and testing analog electronics, including FET, BJT, and/or op-amp circuits, is required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze including thermal considerations, simulate, and test power-conversion circuitry using standard non-isolated power-conversion topologies such as buck, boost, and buck-boost, including module and discrete designs.
  • Guide Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through printed wiring board (PWB) layout of power circuitry and technical drawing creation.
  • Perform design work within the bounds of a given schedule.
  • Present reviews of technical data to program leadership and technical staff.

Desired Qualifications

  • Lab experience specific to power electronics and/or controls electronics.
  • Demonstrated use of software tools for electrical circuit simulation and/or printed circuit board layout.
  • Demonstrated ability to document designs and circuit-performance verification.
  • Demonstrated experience with fundamental power-conversion concepts, components, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated understanding of linear controls and motor-drive techniques.
  • Basic understanding of commonly used power-converter and/or motor-drive control schemes.
  • Design, analysis, and/or test experience with isolated converter topologies such as flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge, and/or push-pull; design scope ideally includes stability.
  • Experience performing circuit-card-assembly-level and/or system-level power-architecture trades, including power-converter specification development.
  • Professional experience guiding ECAD personnel through PWB layout of power circuitry and technical drawing creation; direct experience with such tools is adequate to fulfill this requirement.
  • Familiarity with circuit simulators SIMPLIS and/or Saber, and analysis tool Mathcad.
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and/or HyperLynx.
  • Experience acting as a liaison between program and functional management.
  • Experience with digital power control.
  • Experience with military specifications.
  • Experience with transformer and inductor design considerations.
  • Design experience addressing electromagnetic interference (EMI) concerns.
  • Design experience with voltages greater than 400 V and/or power greater than 10 kW.
  • Experience with program-management tools such as Earned Value.
  • Experience with proposal development.
  • Ability to design to address concerns of adjacent disciplines, including thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability, and quality.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and time-management skills.

About the Company

RTX

Manufactures jet engines, avionics, missiles

RTX operates in aerospace and defense with three main units: Pratt & Whitney jet engines, Collins Aerospace avionics and flight systems, and Raytheon defense systems. Jet engines provide thrust for commercial and military aircraft, avionics manage cockpit controls and navigation, and Raytheon builds missiles, radar, and sensing platforms. It differentiates itself by offering an integrated, end-to-end portfolio across both commercial aviation and national defense under one corporate roof, built on the legacy of Raytheon and UTC. Its goal is to help customers fly more efficiently and protect nations by advancing propulsion, electronics and defense tech for civilian and security needs.
