Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nurse program with six months of patient care experience is required.
  • A current South Carolina or compact-state Licensed Practical Nurse license is required.
  • A current cardiopulmonary resuscitation card is required, specifically an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card.
  • The candidate must demonstrate commitment to patient-centered care through effective communication skills, professional demeanor, and interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must be able to articulate and support the departmental philosophy of excellent guest relations.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • The candidate must be computer literate.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care while respecting patients' and families' culture, values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences.
  • Apply critical reasoning and clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, particularly for patients with complex or potentially life-threatening conditions.
  • Use critical thinking in clinical problem-solving within the scope of practice, knowledge, competency, and experience.
  • Assist medical staff with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures, including interviewing and screening patients to obtain personal data and chief complaints, documenting records, and recording vital signs.
  • Perform telephone and in-person screenings.
  • Participate in recording and reporting responsibilities and document findings relevant to patients' health care status or plan of care accurately and consistently according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Prioritize and document incoming patient phone calls regarding medications and medical conditions, and review them with the provider as needed for orders or changes.
  • Clean and stock examination rooms and other supply areas.
  • Document all delivered patient care in the medical record according to medical center policy.
