About the Job

Requirements

  • Understand the software testing lifecycle, including test cases, test plans, regression testing, and smoke testing.
  • Write clear, reproducible bug reports with numbered reproduction steps, expected and actual results, severity, and likelihood.
  • Have used a bug tracker such as Jira, Bugzilla, Azure DevOps, or TestRail.
  • Notice edge cases, exploits, inconsistencies, and other unexpected behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with developers and designers, especially in writing, in a remote team.
  • Read and write English well enough to work in it throughout the day.
  • Have a strong interest in games.

Responsibilities

  • Run smoke tests, quick tests, login tests, and the Steam pass on every assigned candidate build.
  • Own bug reports in Jira from first sighting through reports that can be reproduced from their own text.
  • Reproduce defects that developers could not reproduce and return them with corrected steps.
  • Validate fixes for verified defects, including regression testing of surrounding features.
  • Maintain the test record for every run, including the plan, build, branch, configuration, and result.
  • Load every candidate build against the archive of saves from earlier versions.
  • Test packaged builds installed through the Steam client from a branch rather than testing in the editor.
  • Test with the team as well as alone when defects appear only with other players in an instance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Have a basic understanding of how games are built, including clients and servers, builds, and patches.
  • Be able to organize your own work independently.
