Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • At least five years of professional experience with research and/or manufacturing laboratory equipment or instrumentation within the regulated industry is required.
  • Good technical writing skills are required.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and with computerized maintenance management systems such as Maximo is required.
  • The ability to organize and analyze information and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and basic algebra to determine organizational, customer, and regulatory problems and formulate corrective action plans is required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently under minimal guidelines and supervision is required.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and standards, including good manufacturing practice, good documentation practice, and ISO standards, is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation is required.
  • Clear communication and customer service skills are required.
  • The employee must be able to use hands to handle and operate equipment, tools, or controls; stand, walk, talk, hear, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell; and lift or move up to 25–35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to work near moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, fumes, electrical-shock hazards, ladders, high places, small spaces, and moderately loud noise.
Responsibilities
  • Collect service reports for corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, calibration, and qualification, and upload copies to computerized maintenance management system work orders.
  • Ensure field service reports and follow-up actions are documented in the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Label asset status, including calibration labels.
  • Perform physical inventory.
  • Escort third-party vendors and ensure compliance with facility policies and work standards.
  • Ensure vendors comply with personal protective equipment policies, including lab coats, safety glasses, and gloves.
  • Triage instruments for up to 30 minutes to determine whether they are repairable on-site.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibration services when applicable and within the engineer's skill set.
  • Own work orders for on-site instrument repairs for instrumentation the engineer is trained or certified to service, including CAT I, II, or III equipment and client and non-client instrumentation.
  • Create work requests in multiple computerized maintenance management systems and notify the manager or planner of required off-site instrument repairs.
  • Complete work documentation in computerized maintenance management systems in compliance with data-integrity requirements.
  • Assist with equipment installation and decommissioning.
  • Tag equipment out of service when it cannot be returned to calibration tolerances.
