Requirements
  • A DEP in Secretarial Studies or a DEP in Office Systems and four years of related experience.
  • Experience in a frontline position serving cross-cultural customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience providing administrative support in an office environment.
  • English and French proficiency, spoken and written.
  • Proven ability to work in a personal computer environment using word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, email, Minerva, and Banner, including FIS and SIS.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in Quebec at the campus where the position is based.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a frontline resource person regarding the ASC's finance and human resources policies and procedures, resolve problems within the area of responsibility, and consult and liaise with relevant resource persons on complex issues.
  • Participate in ensuring the smooth functioning of the ASC, recommend procedural changes, collaborate on work priorities, and follow up on implementation of managerial decisions.
  • Process vendor invoices and requisitions through MMP, handle financial transactions, and maintain payment and course activity fee reconciliation records.
  • Submit and review expense reports, initiate journal transfers in consultation with the Administrative Supervisor, and maintain records of funds requiring transfer.
  • Assist with research grant administration and academic recruitment, including advertisements, hotel arrangements, interview scheduling, fund approval forms, Workday job requisitions, timekeeping, approvals, appointment renewals and terminations, and funding verification.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and schedule speaker series and guest lecturers for the units.
  • Administer research funds by paying invoices, reconciling financial statements, and requesting yearly financial statements.
  • Follow up on financial transaction issues and prepare routine financial payments for staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Request yearly financial statements as needed, maintain records, and input and verify payment data.
  • Organize and prepare seminar series and other events, including publicity, accommodation, scheduling, and budgets.
  • Provide secretarial and administrative support for academic and administrative activities and coordinate the units' administrative activities.
  • Provide daily administrative support to the Administrative Supervisor, including writing, editing, and proofreading correspondence, preparing documentation and background material, and transcribing department meeting minutes.
  • Provide administrative support to the Student Affairs Team.
  • Assist with daily office operations, including tracking keys, creating mailboxes, assisting course lecturers with office space, and archiving materials.
  • Update the East Asian Studies and Languages, Literatures, and Cultures websites and liaise with academics regarding course syllabi and office hours.

Club M&A and McGill's Dobson Centre launch acquisition programme as $218B in Canadian businesses set for ownership transition

Club M&A Canada and McGill's Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship have opened registration for their first Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition programme. The intensive four-day course, running 27–30 October in Montreal, targets professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs interested in acquiring existing small or medium-sized businesses. The programme addresses a significant succession challenge in Canada. According to the Business Development Bank of Canada, nearly one in five Canadian businesses will undergo ownership transition within five years, representing over $300 billion in business revenue. Marc Deegan, founder of R33 Ventures, will serve as programme director. The curriculum covers developing investment theses, target evaluation, financial and legal considerations, acquisition financing, and post-acquisition transition. Instructors include transaction professionals, lawyers, tax specialists, investors, and entrepreneurs with acquisition experience. Admission is by application, with no prior M&A experience required.
