Requirements
  • At least 1–2 years of active experience leading fitness instruction, including verifiable experience in both traditional gym environments and aquatic or pool settings.
  • Proven experience working with older adults or individuals managing chronic health conditions, physical limitations, or disabilities.
  • A nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer certification, such as ACE, NASM, ACSM, or AFAA.
  • Current and active CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, which must be obtained within 30 days of the start date if needed.
  • Strong positive communication, a patient demeanor, and knowledge of senior exercise physiology.
  • Ability to demonstrate movements on land and in water, safely lift or shift up to 50 pounds, and remain on the feet for extended training blocks.
Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct scheduled group land-fitness classes tailored to senior populations, including chair yoga, SilverSneakers, strength training, and balance or fall-prevention courses.
  • Provide instruction and physical demonstrations on the safe use of weight machines, cardio equipment, and resistance bands.
  • Conduct one-on-one or small-group fitness consultations, assess personal health conditions, and develop safe individualized exercise modifications.
  • Instruct scheduled water-aerobics and aquatic-mobility classes using water resistance to build aerobic capacity, joint flexibility, and muscle tone.
  • Monitor pool-deck safety, ensure proper pool entry and exit, and promptly identify residents showing signs of fatigue or distress.
  • Monitor pool environments for chemical slips and wet-deck hazards and ensure proper storage of aquatic equipment such as pool noodles and water weights.
  • Build trusting professional relationships with residents by maintaining an encouraging and inclusive environment.
  • Administer basic pre-exercise health screenings, document resident progress, and maintain accurate daily attendance logs.
  • Keep gym equipment and pool-deck facilities clean and organized in accordance with community hygiene guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
  • A specialized Water Aerobics or Aquatic Fitness certification, such as an Aquatic Exercise Association certification.
