The position is assigned to one of several elementary school sites in Central Oahu.

Requirements
  • The candidate must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • The candidate must be able to supervise participants and provide positive role modeling in interactions with participants and others associated with the program.
  • The candidate must meet program goals and expectations outlined in the Youth Program Policies and Procedures Handbook.
  • The candidate must be reliable and dependable.
  • The candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing and planning needs.
  • The candidate must exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • The candidate must develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • The candidate must successfully complete comprehensive background screening, including criminal and sex offender checks.
  • The candidate must complete mandatory child-protection training and report concerns while upholding professional boundaries.
Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one assistance to a program participant with high-functioning or low-functioning special needs.
  • Support the inclusion of participants with special needs in group activities such as homework help, arts and crafts, and outdoor games.
  • Reinforce positive behavior and ensure a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment.
  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing program components and activities.
  • Use a variety of resources to introduce new skills during activities.
  • Assist Site Coordinators and Youth Directors with overall program operation and participant supervision while following program policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Implement curriculum by leading age-appropriate learning experiences in classroom or group settings.
  • Research and develop new age-appropriate activities in collaboration with others.
  • Facilitate programming that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children in an inclusive environment.
  • Communicate with participants, parents, co-workers, and associated Department of Education and Department of Human Services contacts.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of assigned children and other children in the program.
  • Serve as a role model by relating to participants with respect and understanding, being sensitive to each child's needs, and providing guidance toward positive youth development.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and documentation according to program requirements.
  • Attend general, site, and site-specific staff meetings and training sessions and provide input.
  • Assist with maintaining facilities, equipment, and supplies in good, organized, and clean condition.
  • Ensure staff and participants respect the facility and property and follow applicable rules and expectations.
  • Wear the required nametag and maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance according to the dress code.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
