Smarsh is seeking a Network Engineer to work on-site at our Hillsboro, OR location.
The Network Engineer will work as part of our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, a discipline that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to infrastructure and operations problems. The main goals are to create scalable and highly reliable software systems. Infrastructure teams tend to focus on behind-the-scenes efforts that help make other team’s jobs faster and easier. At Smarsh, the SRE Systems Services team supports both on-prem (data center) infrastructure as well as public-cloud infrastructure. Primary focus is Network, Virtual Infrastructure, bare metal infrastructure, monitoring and alerting, SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, Linux and Windows Server operating systems, and automation.
The Network Engineer works as a fully contributing team member with limited guidance, independent planning & execution responsibilities. Has the ability to respond to detailed inquires independently. Interfaces cross-functionally and leads collaboration extending beyond groups work on problems of complex scope. Applies own judgement to independently determine a course of action which is then executed on independently.
What will you do?
- Administer common network platforms and technologies:
- Juniper network stack (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Firewall: (Juniper, Cisco, pf). Meraki (MX, MR).
- Load balancer: (F5, A10, Zeus, HAProxy).
- Layer 2: (MC-LAG, 802.1q, 802.3ad, 802.1x, Spanning-tree [MSTP, RSTP]).
- Layer 3: (BGP, OSPF).
- AWS network platform.
- Linux (Redhat, Ubuntu).
- Implements and supports network tools (syslog, radius, snmp, etc). DNS, Domain name management, SSL certificate management
- DHCP and DNS adds/moves/changes.
- Operate independently in a secure datacenter without supervision.
- Provide proactive recommendations for improving Infrastructure Operations platform architecture, automations and standards.
- Provide technical assessments and written documentation within their projects as well as timely project deliverables.
What will you bring?
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred
- Network related certification desired. Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, Infoblox, Ubiquiti, Meraki and F5 experience highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in both Linux and Windows Server environments required.
- Excellent customer service skills

- Ability to develop documentation, test, and implementation plans
- Ability to work independently or collaborate with team members, as required
- Able to lift 50 lbs, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to participate in an on-call situation and work limited nights or weekends if necessary
