About the job
- An accredited bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related science, and completion of an accredited medical technology clinical practice program; alternatively, an accredited bachelor's degree including 16 semester hours in biological science, including microbiology, 16 semester hours in chemistry, including organic or biochemistry, and one mathematics course, plus two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience within the last ten years as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP-BOC).
- At least one year of Medical Technologist experience within the last three years.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory medicine techniques and practices.
- Demonstrated education and clinical training in the practice of laboratory medicine.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lift up to 20 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance, and push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
- Rotate regularly through areas in which trained and competent.
- Perform laboratory procedures in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and transfusion medicine.
- Perform advanced and complex laboratory procedures; recognize deviations from expected results, analyze and correct problems using scientific principles.
- Recognize and communicate predefined critical results affecting patient care.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and documentation; operate and calibrate laboratory analyzers, identify malfunctions, repair analyzers, and perform preventive maintenance.
- Perform and document quality control, quality assurance, and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and performance-improvement theories.
- Enter and verify laboratory results in the computer system; recognize deviations from expected results, analyze and correct problems using scientific principles.
- Perform other duties relating to the responsibilities of a Medical Technologist.
