Requirements
  • A Doctor of Optometry degree and an active California optometrist license in good standing are required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • In-depth understanding of eye conditions and vision defects is required.
  • Hands-on experience with eye examination tools such as an ophthalmoscope and tonometer is required.
  • Ability to explain medical terms simply and calmly is required.
  • Current, unrestricted California Optometrist License is required.
  • Applied understanding of general principles of optometry and best practices for diagnosing and treating eye-related disorders and conditions is required.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to coach, teach, and inspire are required.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and standard office equipment, is required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with internal and external customers at all levels are required.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, staff, vendors, or other business community members is required.
  • Ability to draw valid conclusions, apply sound judgment, and make decisions under pressure is required.
  • Ability to direct the work of others and work as a team leader and coach in attaining goals is required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and projects with limited direction while contributing to company success is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive eye and vision tests.
  • Diagnose eye defects and conditions such as myopia, astigmatism, and glaucoma.
  • Provide personalized temporary and permanent solutions to sight issues based on each patient's specific case and medical history.
  • Prescribe medications, eyeglasses, and contact lenses.
  • Advise patients on proper eye care techniques.
  • Promote eye and general health by evaluating and counseling patients.
  • Maintain updated and accurate medical records for all patients.
  • Book follow-up appointments when re-examination is required.
  • Train patients to use and maintain their contact lenses.
  • Refer patients to eye doctors and ophthalmologists when surgery is needed or in cases of severe eye injuries.
  • Maintain patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality in accordance with policy.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, and other regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration, workers' compensation, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Employment and Housing Act, Department of Labor, and human resources policies and practices.
  • Stay current with changes in the healthcare environment and act in the company's best interest.
Desired Qualifications
  • Glaucoma certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Care Cloud electronic medical record software.
