About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a STEM field with extensive experience in OISL and optical systems design, construction, and analysis, or a Master's degree in those fields with experience in that work.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing technical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in operations within a product-oriented development environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing, developing, and testing optical systems, including at least 2 years focused on space-based applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with high-data-rate optical communication systems, such as free-space optical communications or OISL.
  • Strong understanding of optical principles, laser systems, photodetectors, pointing/acquisition/tracking systems, and optical link budgets.
  • Experience working with software or hardware systems across the product life cycle, from conceptual designs and trade-offs through detailed design, development, manufacturing, integration, testing, deployment, and operations in a team setting.
  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a STEM field with relevant optical system and communications design and analysis experience is preferred.
  • Direct experience designing or developing systems for optical time transfer or laser ranging in a space environment is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and testing satellite payloads is preferred.
  • Familiarity with space environmental factors and mitigation techniques, including radiation and thermal vacuum, is preferred.
  • Experience with optical systems modeling and simulation tools such as Zemax, Code V, or MATLAB is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant optical communication protocols and standards, such as the SDA OCT standard, is preferred.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers for space hardware is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Build a team spanning OISL application and associated technology development, integration of internally and externally developed systems, and at-scale manufacturing of integrated capabilities.
  • Manage optical payload operations, including cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle of satellite optical payloads from specification definition through detailed design, analysis, manufacturing, integration, testing, and in-orbit commissioning, including procurement or construction of systems and subsystems.
  • Own the overall specification, integration, and evaluation of optical payloads, including optical intersatellite links, optical-based time transfer, optical ranging, and satellite position measurements.
  • Oversee architecture, procurement, and integration of high-bandwidth optical intersatellite links of 100 Gbps and beyond, ensuring robust performance, pointing accuracy, and link stability.
  • Direct development and/or integration of high-precision optical time transfer systems for synchronization across the satellite constellation and ground segments.
  • Guide design and validation of laser-based ranging payloads for precise orbit determination.
  • Manage engineers and technicians, providing technical direction, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, spacecraft bus teams, ground segment developers, and program management to ensure payload compatibility and mission success.
  • Oversee supplier selection, management, and technical oversight for critical optical components and subsystems.
  • Develop and manage payload development budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.
  • Lead technical reviews, including PDR and CDR, anomaly investigations, and risk management activities related to optical payloads.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and potential advancements in space-based optical systems.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation, reports, and briefings to internal stakeholders and external partners or customers.

About the company

Logos Space provides satellite-based connectivity services designed for high performance and resilience, serving enterprise customers and government agencies. Its system delivers secure, multi-gigabit satellite links that remain reliable even under electronic warfare or jamming. Built-in resilience and security are core design features, giving it an edge in contested environments and for sensitive government use. What believers are saying

  • USIT led a $50 million Series A, funding engineering and partnerships.
  • Logos plans its first operational satellite for 2027 and service launch after.
  • Demand for jam-resistant government and enterprise connectivity keeps rising in 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Logos still lacks launch contracts and bus selection, delaying 2027 service.
  • The FCC made Ka-band operations unprotected, exposing Logos to interference disputes.
  • Starlink, Kuiper, and defense primes already command customers and launch capacity.

What makes Logos Space unique

  • February 2026 FCC approval covers 4,178 satellites across Ka, Q, and V bands.
  • Logos targets private, enterprise and government networks with EW-resilient narrow beams.
  • Its architecture prioritizes symmetric multi-gigabit, Layer 2 transport over public internet routing.
