Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional general education instruction and assess scholar growth.
  • Plan instruction for students of all ability levels, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to write unit plans and interim assessments, share teaching strategies, visit peer classrooms, analyze student data, and develop pedagogy supporting literacy and critical thinking across subject areas.
  • Provide academic and cultural support to the school and instructional team.
  • Use collaborative team-teaching models for English Language Learners and students with special needs.
  • Apply formative and summative assessment data to guide instructional plans.
  • Develop an individual growth plan with professional goals and objectives in collaboration with the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
  • Use technology, including the parent/student portal and school website, to provide regular written updates and/or grades.
  • Participate in after-school and/or Saturday tutoring, sports, enrichment, arts, family programs, special-program committees, professional development, inquiry work, intervisitations, common planning, and collaborative conversations.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree is preferred.
  • New York State certification is preferred.
  • Teaching experience in an urban school setting is preferred.

Challenge Preparatory Charter School provides a free K-12 public charter education in Far Rockaway, offering a complete continuum from elementary through high school with Early College and Career and Technical Education tracks. It operates as a publicly funded non-profit school of choice with lottery-based admissions, and uses a technology-enhanced learning environment, an extended school day, and two teachers per classroom to support students. The school differentiates itself by being the only K-12 option on the Rockaway Peninsula and by integrating community partnerships and focused literacy and STEM programs to support student achievement and resilience. Its goal is to meet New York State Learning Standards and prepare students for higher education, professional certifications, and successful careers.
