UNC Greensboro reimagines the first-year experience with Microsoft 365 and Planet Technologies. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is redefining how technology supports student success. In partnership with Planet Technologies and Microsoft, UNCG transformed a traditional first-year academic planner into an interactive, digital experience powered by Microsoft 365 and created by Planet Technologies. Historically, UNCG distributed printed planners to help first-year students manage assignments, events, and campus resources. But limited engagement and the static nature of print materials led the university's New Student Transitions and First Year Experience team to envision something more dynamic real-time, connected platform students could access anytime, anywhere. Working closely with Planet Technologies, UNCG leveraged its existing Microsoft 365 environment - including SharePoint, Outlook, Planner, and Loop - to build a centralized, mobile-friendly planner that keeps students organized and informed. The new solution delivers class schedules, campus announcements, and event reminders directly to students' devices, integrating seamlessly with the tools they already use every day. Beyond improving accessibility and engagement, UNCG's digital planner advances the university's sustainability goals by reducing printed materials and enabling live updates. The approach represents a smarter, student-centered way to foster success - one that reflects UNCG's commitment to innovation and inclusion. As one of the first universities to deploy Microsoft 365 in this way, UNCG is setting a model for higher education institutions nationwide. Planet Technologies is proud to have partnered with UNCG to bring this vision to life - helping turn a familiar academic tool into a powerful, connected experience that reimagines what student success can look like.
