  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Management, or a related field and at least five years of management experience or ten years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to implement ISO, Lean, and other manufacturing processes and programs.
  • Skills managing quality programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic knowledge of the Cornell/Cookson product line, computer skills, and Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
  • Ability to work independently to resolve problems and errors from various sources with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple departments and external customers in written and verbal forms.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills and strong cooperation and team-building abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Create and fully implement quality management systems that produce continuously improving results.
  • Communicate problems, causes, corrective actions, progress, and comparative results throughout the organization.
  • Develop and manage quality procedures focused on root-cause solutions to quality problems.
  • Train and coach associates and develop in-process self-inspections within each department.
  • Track and analyze customer complaints and involve associates in resolving them.
  • Communicate the impact of customer problems and the need to respond, and recognize successful problem elimination.
  • Audit quality-control processes and programs for compliance and report nonconformances to top management.
  • Maintain current knowledge of quality principles and update quality materials as needed.
  • Coordinate and lead the plant ISO certification process.
  • Conduct quality-management-system audits and lead the corrective and preventive action process.
  • Develop teams to solve quality problems, provide ongoing education, and bring best practices to Cookson.
  • Manage the work group so associates develop while achieving stated goals.
  • Use Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook and other databases to communicate, process estimates, and relay messages.
  • Cross-train throughout the production facility to support the Plant Manager.
  • Facilitate site kaizen events and projects.
  • Drive continual-improvement efforts with the production team.
  • Implement communication tools to foster a Lean culture.

  • Knowledge of the steel manufacturing environment is preferred.
