Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Dietetics or a related field.
  • Frequent reaching, sitting, standing, walking, vision and depth perception use, hearing and speech for oral communication, and keyboard use or data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, gripping, lifting or carrying objects weighing 0–25 pounds, pushing or pulling objects, distinguishing colors, and driving.
  • Rare repetitive foot, leg, hand, and arm movements and squatting.
  • For Wisconsin work locations, a Wisconsin Dietitian license from the Department of Safety and Professional Services and either Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • No prior experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Direct the nutritional care of patients and residents with special needs, including screening, assessment, intervention, care and discharge planning.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and Joint Commission care standards for nutrition care delivery.
  • Monitor patient progress, reassess patients, and adjust care plans as appropriate.
  • Participate in discharge planning and assist patients and families with education and needed resources.
  • Collaborate with and advise physicians, nurses, therapists, and other care providers on patient nutritional care issues.
  • Participate actively in care coordination meetings.
  • Identify patients needing nutrition education, assess educational needs, identify resources, and initiate the education process.
  • Consider age, cultural practices, emotional barriers, motivation to learn, and physical and cognitive limitations when providing education.
  • Involve patients' families or significant others in education.
  • Select, adapt, and develop nutrition education materials and techniques to accomplish patient goals.
  • Contribute to nutrition education experiences for medical residents, nurses, pharmacists, and other interested parties as requested.
  • Provide nutrition information and education to the community through planned, factual, audience-appropriate nutrition education programs.
  • Use handouts and audiovisual aids when suitable.
  • Maintain current knowledge of nutrition and diet therapy through continuing education.
  • Provide input and recommendations for revising clinical guidelines and procuring educational materials to support best practices.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
