- A bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience and education.
- No experience is required.
- One applicable professional laboratory license or certification is required, such as Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Blood Bank Technologist, Chemistry Technologist, Hematology Technologist, Microbiology Technologist, Molecular Biology Technologist, or an equivalent listed state or professional credential.
- The position requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 0–25 pounds; frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements, vision and depth perception at near and far distances, color identification, hearing and oral communication, and keyboard use/data entry; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and handling objects weighing 25–50 pounds; and rare climbing.
- Performs a full range of laboratory tests, from simple blood tests to complex tests.
- Interprets test reports and communicates findings to physicians.
- Escalates unusual, critical, or abnormal results.
- Operates complex electronic equipment, computers, and precision instruments.
- Performs and evaluates quality control procedures.
- Maintains equipment and reagents by performing established preventive maintenance procedures.
- Assists providers in choosing appropriate laboratory tests.
- Evaluates new testing methods.
- Operates, maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots instruments.
- Assists with the proper storage of hazardous materials.
- Maintains competencies and continuing education to remain informed of new developments in the field.
- Assists in the laboratory proficiency testing program.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist credentials are preferred.
