Kaiser Permanente runs an integrated healthcare platform that lets members manage and pay medical, premium, and pharmacy bills online. It serves Medicare Advantage, Individual and Family, and non-employer plans, offering options to pay as a guest or set up payment plans. The platform works by presenting a centralized online portal where users can view bills, choose how to pay, and handle multiple types of charges in one place. Revenue comes from premiums and medical services fees, while the service aims to reduce administrative work for both providers and patients and encourage on-time payments. What sets Kaiser Permanente apart is its combination of healthcare services with a single billing experience across multiple plan types, focusing on a user-friendly, centralized payment process rather than handling billing through separate systems. Its goal is to provide a straightforward, reliable way for members to manage and pay their bills, improving convenience and payment timeliness.

Kaiser Permanente is laying off 147 business and administrative employees across California in November. The cuts affect 16 locations in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside and Alameda counties, with the largest reductions being 72 positions in San Diego and 20 in Pasadena. The Oakland-based non-profit said the layoffs do not include direct patient care staff and will not affect care quality. Kaiser stated it continually evaluates how it organises work to ensure high-quality care remains affordable and accessible. Affected employees will receive support to explore other opportunities within Kaiser, and where appropriate, severance packages and outplacement services. Kaiser employs approximately 180,000 people in California.
Kaiser layoffs to impact nearly 150 workers across California. Posted: Sep 28, 2026 / 02:49 PM PDT Updated: Sep 28, 2026 / 04:26 PM PDT (KRON) - Kaiser has announced plans to cut nearly 150 jobs across the state of California. The layoffs, according to a filing with the Employment Development Department, will result in 147 people losing their jobs. Among those layoffs are 34 Bay Area job cuts. The healthcare giant will be cutting 11 jobs at its headquarters in Oakland and another job at a separate facility in Oakland on Harrison Street. In Pleasanton, Kaiser plans to cut 22 jobs. The majority of the layoffs are spread across the rest of the state with employees in Pasadena, Irvine, Corona, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Folsom and San Diego all set to lose their jobs. The job cuts, which were announced late last week take effect on Nov. 20, according to state filings. All of the layoffs are described as permanent. "Kaiser Permanente continually evaluates how we organize our work and deploy resources to help ensure high-quality care remains affordable and accessible for our members and patients," a company spokesperson told KRON4. "We recently notified 147 employees in a number of business and administrative functions that their positions will be eliminated. These positions do not provide direct patient care." Kaiser said it would be supporting affected employees as they pursued other opportunities within the company and where appropriate, providing severance, career support and outplacement services.
Longtime Reno Wendy's giving free food for a year for reopening. By Jason Hidalgo, Reno Gazette Journal USA Today Network via Reuters Connect Updated September 28, 2026 10:17 AM Gift Article A longtime Wendy's restaurant near downtown Reno is giving away free food for a year as it celebrates its grand reopening after months of remodeling. The Wendy's on 875 W. Fifth St., just east of Keystone Avenue, officially reopened Saturday, Sept. 26, a company spokesperson confirmed with the Reno Gazette Journal. To celebrate the reopening, the location will hold a grand opening event at 8 a.m. Oct. 13. To further sweeten the pot - or the Frosty - the first 100 customers in line will receive free food for a year. Customers who get the free food promotion will receive their choice of one free premium sandwich or premium salad once a week with any food purchase. Premium sandwiches include Wendy's premium beef burgers such as the Dave's Single, Double and Triple, Baconator and Big Bacon Classic. Also included are premium sandwiches such as the Asiago Ranch Chicken Club, Spicy Asiago Ranch ChickenClub and the Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich. The West Fifth Street Wendy's has been closed for five months as it underwent an extensive remodel. The location is one of the company's older stores. The property was first built in 1977 - just eight years after Wendy's was founded - according to Washoe County Assessor records. The remodel occurred as Wendy's aims to regain the No. 2 spot for America's largest fast-food burger chain behind McDonald's. Wendy's was bumped down earlier this year to No. 3 by a rising Burger King, which implemented menu changes via a Whopper refresh and new chicken nuggets while beefing up its value offerings. In addition to welcoming an In-N-Out Burger and Reno's first Cracker Barrel, the Keystone area will also be the site of a brand new Kaiser Permanente clinic - the first newly constructed ground-up facility for the healthcare company since it entered the Nevada market via an insurance deal with Renown Health. West LA College celebrates launch of nursing program. & Partnership with Kaiser Permanente Oct 01, 2026 West Los Angeles College (WLAC) celebrated the launch of its inaugural class of Licensed Vocational Nursing students and its longstanding partnership with Kaiser Permanente during a Sept. 24 reception in the college's new nursing lab. The milestone was made possible in part by two grants from Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles, awarded in 2023 and 2025, which provided critical seed funding to develop the curriculum, equip the program and successfully navigate the rigorous approval process required by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. The new program expands the college's growing portfolio of health sciences programs, which include dental hygiene, pharmacy technician, emergency medical technician and entry-level nursing programs. It also creates an affordable pathway for students to enter a high-demand health care profession. Guests included Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Senior Vice President and Area Manager Lilit Zibari; representatives from the offices of U.S. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, state Sen. Lola Smallwood-Cuevas and Assemblymember Isaac Bryan; Los Angeles Community College District Vice Chancellor Dr. Jim Lancaster; LACCD Board of Trustees member; and Culver City Unified School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alfonso Jiménez. Dr. Matthew Jordan, WLAC's interim president, welcomed guests and provided an overview of the new program. He also recognized Kaiser Permanente for its support and directed guests' attention to a display in the nursing lab commemorating the health care organization's contribution. "Kaiser Permanente has been a valued partner in preparing West LA College students for health care careers, and its support of our new LVN program is another example of what we can accomplish when education and industry work together," Jordan said. "That partnership extends beyond financial support. This fall, our Certified Nursing Assistant students will begin an acute care clinical rotation at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center, giving them the opportunity to learn in a real-world health care environment. Partnerships like this help us connect education directly to opportunity for our students." Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles representatives said investing in programs such as the college's LVN program can help strengthen the pipeline of skilled health care professionals serving Southern California communities. "With the ongoing nursing shortage, programs like this are essential to building a strong and sustainable health care workforce," said Lilit Zibari, senior vice president and area manager of Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles. "Nurses are the backbone of our health care system, and we are proud to partner with West Los Angeles College to create meaningful pathways into the profession and strengthen the pipeline of skilled nurses who will serve our communities across Los Angeles and beyond." For students in the inaugural cohort, the program represents both a professional opportunity and the possibility of a life-changing career. LVN student Leslie Rodas says she has dreamed of becoming a nurse for years. In fact, she is already working in entry-level nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a credential she earned at WLAC. Now, she is preparing to climb the ladder to higher level. The Culver City High School alumnae said, "Getting into a nursing program was not easy." When she got the acceptance letter, "I ran to my parents' room crying." She continued, "I want to sincerely thank Kaiser Permanente for helping fund this program and investing in future nurses like us... I will carry that support with me throughout my nursing journey. I hope to honor it by becoming the kind of nurse who never gives up on a patient, just as I never gave up on my dream." "Another great thing about this program is that it provides an affordable alternative to private career colleges," said Tiffany Miller, dean of academic affairs. California residents pay only $46 per unit at West Los Angeles College, and many first-time, full-time students qualify for the college's $0 Tuition Promise Program. Meeting a Regional Workforce Need Demand for licensed vocational nurses in the Los Angeles area remains strong, driven in part by an aging population, growing health care needs and the need to replace workers leaving the profession. LVNs provide direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. Their responsibilities can include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, changing dressings, assisting patients with daily activities, collecting samples, maintaining health records and communicating changes in a patient's condition to other members of the health care team. For some students, becoming an LVN can also be a first step toward becoming a registered nurse. After gaining experience and completing prerequisite requirements, LVNs may pursue an LVN-to-RN bridge program. Graduates who meet applicable requirements can become eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, or NCLEX-RN, opening the door to expanded responsibilities and increased earning potential. According to the California Employment Development Department, employment of LVNs in Los Angeles County is projected to grow by more than 15% between 2022 and 2032. The career also offers strong earning potential, with the median wage for LVNs in the Los Angeles area equivalent to approximately $81,400 annually for full-time employment.
