Marriott bonvoy testing showing your complimentary upgrade position.

Marriott bonvoy testing showing your complimentary upgrade position. by John Ollila Reading Time: 2 mins read Marriott has rolled out new BETA functionality to its app and possibly its website that shows your current position for complimentary, status-based upgrades. You can also use Nightly Upgrade Awards (NUAs), which Marriott introduced after the Starwood acquisition and first called Suite Upgrade Awards, to upgrade your stays. These upgrades are prioritized over complimentary ones and are not included in this BETA test. You can access Marriott's page for elite benefits here. Upgrade list image shared online: The screenshot indicates that this is a "BETA," meaning Marriott has rolled this functionality out to select accounts or for stays at specific hotels to test how the process works. The screen shows how many complimentary upgrades Marriott "estimates" to be available for the stay. It is unclear what room and suite types the hotel and Marriott have included in this pool. Then there is another line that shows your current position for a potential upgrade. Loyaltylobby'll let you know 1 day before arrival if your complimentary upgrade is confirmed. Turn on push notifications to stay updated. Then there is a line that is somewhat confusing, since upgrades are often available and processed during the overnight shift or when you check in. Here Marriott indicates that if an upgrade is NOT available the day before your stay, it is declined, which doesn't make much sense. Your Current Position in Line may change. Estimated Upgrades Available reflect rooms matching booked stay dates and bed type. Nightly Upgrade Awards are prioritized before Complimentary Upgrades and are not reflected above. Marriott also states that Nightly Upgrade Awards are not included in the numbers and take priority over complimentary upgrades. Conclusion Can anyone see how this will "evolve," given how airlines have implemented something similar before? You are shown that there will be no or very few complimentary upgrades available or that your position is so low that you won't have a chance of getting one. But hey, you can buy this upgrade now for an x-amount of money and skip the line. Or Marriott will email you that you have been upgraded from your King Room to a King High Floor room, and you might want to upgrade further, here are the paid options. This may also indicate that Marriott will start controlling upgrades more tightly at the property level if they process them only through this automated system. Right now, properly run hotels process upgrades during the overnight shift or in the morning, when they have a clear understanding of the number of guests arriving that day and what is available. Based on my personal experience, the hotel's upgrade preferences may not be exactly the same as the corporate's. The hotel may prioritize frequent guests over someone staying for the first time, even if their tier or within-tier status is higher. It is interesting to see how this will "evolve" (remember, this has replaced the word "enhanced" in the business lingo) and affect Marriott's frequent guests. Maximize your miles & points. (NEWS) BANGKOK, Thailand, 2026-Oct-08 - /Travel PR News/ - Marriott International is planning a significant expansion of its Thailand hotel portfolio through a seven-property agreement with FICO Corporation, bringing a proposed 1,262 rooms to Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. The deal spans luxury, technology-led urban accommodation and more accessible midscale stays, and is expected to introduce three Marriott brands to the country. Announced in Bangkok on 7 October 2026, the agreement comprises five planned hotels in the capital and two in established coastal leisure destinations. Among its most prominent projects is the proposed JW Marriott Bangkok Sathorn, a 288-room luxury property intended to combine an urban setting with sports, fitness and wellbeing facilities and a lifestyle-focused hub. Five hotels planned across Bangkok. A 147-room citizenM Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 is expected to become the brand's first property in Thailand. Its plans call for contemporary design, technology-enabled guest experiences and a food-and-beverage venue in the Sukhumvit district. Marriott and FICO also plan three Bangkok openings under Four Points Flex by Sheraton, another brand entering the Thai market. The proposed properties are Four Points Flex by Sheraton Bangkok Sukhumvit 8, with 162 rooms; Four Points Flex by Sheraton Bangkok Sukhumvit 14, with 130; and Four Points Flex by Sheraton Bangkok Surawong, with 201. Marriott says the locations will serve travellers seeking convenient accommodation, including access to Bangkok's BTS Skytrain network. New collection brand planned for Pattaya and Phuket. Outside the capital, two hotels are planned under Series by Marriott, the third brand scheduled to debut in Thailand through the agreement. They are the 192-room Easy Planet North Pattaya, Series by Marriott, and the 142-room Easy Planet Phuket Patong, Series by Marriott. The collection is positioned around approachable accommodation reflecting local destination character while retaining consistent operating standards. The seven planned properties would give the two companies a wider range of accommodation across both city and beach destinations, from luxury stays to value-conscious options. They remain proposed developments under a signed agreement; Marriott did not provide opening dates in its announcement. Partnership expected to expand to 11 hotels. Marriott's regional president for Asia Pacific excluding China, Rajeev Menon, described the agreement as an extension of the companies' existing relationship, with an emphasis on changing guest preferences and experiences that combine hospitality, lifestyle and wellbeing. Krit Srichawla, chairman of FICO Corporation, similarly highlighted wellness, sport and community connections as areas of focus for the expanded portfolio. The companies already work together on four Bangkok hotels: Hotel Muse Bangkok, Autograph Collection; Marriott Executive Apartments Bangkok Townhall Sukhumvit; Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit; and Metropole Bangkok, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. If the additional properties proceed as planned, the collaboration would encompass 11 hotels across eight brands. For travellers, the proposed additions could broaden the choice of Marriott-affiliated hotels in Thailand's capital and two popular resort markets. Further details of the wider hotel offering are available through Marriott International, while information on the development partner is available from FICO Corporation.

World's first all-inclusive JW Marriott opens in Guanacaste.

World's first all-inclusive JW Marriott opens in Guanacaste. October 7, 2026 Costa Rica is now home to the world's first all-inclusive JW Marriott. The JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa has opened at Playa El Jobo in La Cruz, Guanacaste, Marriott International announced on October 6. The opening marks the luxury brand's entry into the all-inclusive market, and the company chose Costa Rica's northern Pacific coast for its global debut. Advertised rates start at about $900 per person per night, based on double occupancy. Costa Rica videos. The beachfront itself is not new to resort guests. The property occupies the site of the former Dreams Las Mareas, an all-inclusive that changed hands in 2025 and was converted to the JW Marriott brand. Mullen Hospitality Management, the resort's franchise operator, has described the project as a $60 million transformation. The resort sits within Costa Elena, a resort-residential community that Marriott says covers about 1,200 hectares (3,000 acres) of tropical dry forest near the Nicaraguan border. The resort has 415 rooms and suites with villa-inspired designs, private terraces, and spacious interiors. Some ground-floor rooms open directly onto semi-private swim-out pools, and Presidential Suites include separate living areas. The opening comes as Costa Rica draws growing attention from luxury travelers. Marriott recently ranked Costa Rica among the five most popular destinations for Latin American travelers looking ahead to 2027. Guanacaste's luxury market has also expanded with properties such as Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which opened on the Papagayo Peninsula in 2025. Dining plays a central role at the property. It has 15 restaurants and bars serving Costa Rican and international cuisine, according to Marriott. Leal draws on Guanacaste's culinary traditions and offers coffee-roasting experiences and a seven-course tasting menu inspired by Costa Rica's seven provinces. Casado is a wood-fired coastal grill and Puerto Limón focuses on the Afro-Caribbean culinary heritage. Other concepts include Italian, Mexican, and Japanese restaurants. There is also LaGloria, a root beer stand that honors the nine-seat Washington, D.C., business J. Willard Marriott opened in 1927, the company's starting point. The property has its own JW Garden, which grows herbs, edible flowers, fruits, and vegetables for the kitchens and bars. Wellness is another major focus. A wellness area of nearly 1,500 square meters (16,000 square feet) houses Spa by JW, a fitness center, and the brand's first Mindfulness House. Treatments include hydrotherapy, sound healing, Reiki, and cacao ceremonies. Some therapies use local ingredients such as volcanic clay and native cacao. The resort has 17 pools, including an oceanfront infinity pool. Marriott describes the complex, which covers roughly 4,090 square meters (44,000 square feet), as the largest resort pool area in Costa Rica. The resort also introduces Griffin Club, a 45-room private section for guests who want more privacy and personalized service. Members have a separate lounge, a dedicated pool, a private beach area, personal assistance, and priority reservations for restaurants and pool cabanas. Families can use the Family by JW Club, which offers nature walks, children's yoga, creative activities, storytelling, and movie nights. The resort's design references Sibú, a central figure in the traditions of Costa Rica's Bribri and Cabécar Indigenous peoples. Building materials such as wood, stone, and palm reflect traditional Costa Rican construction. Weekly night markets bring local artisans, food, music and dance to the property. Excursions include kayaking, fishing, scuba diving, sunset hikes, and private yacht charters. The project may not be Marriott's last on the site. When the deal was first announced in 2025, the company said JW Marriott-branded residences could follow on adjacent land. That is another sign of the large-scale luxury investment still flowing to Guanacaste's coast.
