Requirements
- PhD in a relevant domain [Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, or similar] with 10+ years of industry experience preferred
- Proven record of growing teams and individuals in a fast-paced startup environment
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively about data problems with diverse audiences (e.g wet lab, engineering, product, drug development) and translate team needs into data science solutions
- Experience and a methodological, practical mindset for applying a broad set of statistical and computational methods to real world biological problems
- Deep experience working with diverse experimental data sets, ideally focused on protein or antibody design problems
- Passionate about building robust, scalable data products for scientific teams
Responsibilities
- Setting and executing a vision for how Data Science can advance BigHat’s mission and operations in our next stage of company growth
- Architecting a data product ecosystem that accelerates therapeutic programs with insights derived from data ranging from immune repertoires to phage display to ML-designed sequence properties and corresponding experimental measurements
- Growing a high performance team that services the entire organization including platform, protein sciences, machine learning, target discovery, and therapeutic programs emphasizing individual development of talented team members
- Owning the entire data science life cycle at BigHat from experimental design through data analysis and modeling
- Proactively identify areas where data science activities could accelerate BigHat’s mission and organizational effectiveness
- Conceptualize and own robust and reliable data products (dataset, metadata, models, and visualizations) to advance the efficiency and effectiveness of our platform, including measuring data quality to modeling antibody function to automating variant design strategies
- Collaborating closely with BigHat protein scientists, program leads, software engineers, ML scientists, and other team members to enable rapid, iterative development of data products across our platform
