Next-Gen 2029 Chevrolet Camaro GT four-door has ICE power under the hood and CGI Z28 trim pack. Alexis Poncelet, a car designer for GAC Milano who also dwells on social media independently as 'alexey_ponslav,' has decided that Chevrolet needs a Camaro GT Published: 21 Aug 2026, 22:00 UTC - By: Photo: alexey_ponslav / Instagram General Motors didn't ignore the Monterey Car Week in favor of the Woodward Dream Cruise like Stellantis and the Ford Motor Company did this year, but they also focused on just one of their main brands in the process. Stellantis allowed Dodge and Chrysler to play with the dreams of Mopar fans during the Roadkill Nights and Woodward Dream Cruise events in Detroit just as the entire automotive world was focused on the Monterey Car Week on the other coast in California. The Ford Motor Company also joined its rivals and presented the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible at Woodward instead of traveling to the Monterey Peninsula. On the other hand, General Motors decided to hit the West Coast in time for the Monterey Car Week festivities with all-new high-end concepts and custom vehicles from Cadillac alone: they expanded the Curated by Cadillac bespoke customization program to the Escalade IQ, unveiled the one-off Celestiq Night Test, and also unleashed the V-One concept. The latter was presented as a single-seat track menace sharing its bones with the V-Series.R race car and pushing 830 hp from its hybrid V8 engine setup. But what about the other brands - Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC? Well, they weren't deemed exotic enough for the Monterey Car Week, so a member of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators dwelling across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI stepped in to save the day. More precisely, Alexis Poncelet, a car designer for GAC Milano who previously worked for the VW Future Center Europe, also dwells on social media independently as 'alexey_ponslav,' and has decided that Chevrolet needs a Camaro GT in its lineup. The pixel master heard it from across the rumor mill that GM's upcoming next-generation 2029 Chevrolet Camaro will reportedly have four doors and "to be honest I'm kind of curious what could a Chevy GT would look like," and he quickly imagined one in his latest unofficial, hypothetical design project. Just like many other modern passenger cars, for example, the Toyota Crown and the upcoming Land Rover Range Rover GT, this model also has a fastback, high-riding profile with black plastic protection elements around the base of the car and the wheel arches. The front is interesting because it suggests this all-new 2029 Chevrolet Camaro GT is an electric vehicle due to the closed-off front surface with only a small grille embedded in the bumper and the headlights spanning both horizontally and vertically to form a squared-off front fascia. The profile is the modern fastback look with a high and muscular shoulder line and small glasshouse; there are also hidden door handles and a very small rear window with an integrated black roof spoiler. The rear is also 'muscular' due to the protruding bumper, and Autoevolution can finally see that this project is ICE-powered via the quad exhaust outlets integrated into the massive black plastic air diffuser. NHTSA opens investigation into GM v-8s that won't stop imploding, despite receiving recall remedy. Jack Fitzgerald Fri, August 21, 2026 at 3:34 PM PDT * The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened an investigation into General Motors's 6.2-liter V-8 over continued failures. * The ODI's investigation involves an engineering analysis of recall 25V-274 and has been expanded to include engines produced after the production period noted in the recall. * According to NHTSA, the ODI has received 499 reports alleging post-remedy engine failures, while GM itself has reported 6953 such complaints. General Motors is in hot water with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation. The issue? Engines the automaker previously supplied with a recall fix continue to have catastrophic failures. So, the ODI team has opened a new investigation that specifically targets the L87, GM's 6.2-liter V-8, which was the subject of recall 25V-274. The recall, which covered 597,630 trucks and SUVs in the United States, was initiated because of manufacturing defects with the crankshaft and connecting rods that could lead to a catastrophic engine failure. At the time, GM's remedy involved engine inspections, and for units that passed scrutiny, a higher oil viscosity, a new oil fill cap, and an oil filter replacement. Those that failed were replaced. Unfortunately, neither solution seems to have fixed the underlying issue. The new ODI report shows that as of August 20, the office had received 499 complaints alleging post-remedy engine failures for cars affected by the recall. Of that population, 473 were supplied with a change in recommended oil while 26 received a complete engine replacement. GM itself has reported that it has received 6953 complaints of post-remedy engine failures, with the ODI reporting that it learned of a further 191 failures for engines produced outside of the recall's production range. The oil issue has dogged GM for more than a year now. A class-action suit was brought against the company last year, alleging that the automaker knowingly sold vehicles with bad engines. Earlier this year, GM changed the recommended oil viscosity for the L87, marking the second change in recommended oil for the recalled engine. Now, the ODI is opening its investigation to include L87 engines produced outside of the production window originally laid out in the initial recall.
Brembo's most powerful brakes ever debut on the Chevrolet Silverado EV Stars and Steel Edition. August 21, 2026 Discover more Electric & Plug-In Vehicles * This model of the Silverado EV is made to commemorate the United States' 250th * Brembo has developed its most powerful brake callipers ever for this model. * The same callipers will later be made available for other large trucks and SUVs. Best known for its work on supercars and race cars, Italian brake manufacturer Brembo now wants to supply equipment for heavy-duty trucks and large SUVs. To do so, the company has developed its most powerful brake callipers ever, which have been introduced on the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Stars and Steel Edition. This model of the Silverado EV is only available in the United States, where it commemorates the country's 250th anniversary. While its output of 760 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque is the same as the widely available Silverado EV LT, the Stars and Steel Edition is billed as a sportier model, with its black accents and unique alloy wheels. To accommodate drivers who want to push the limits of the powerful and heavy truck, General Motors turned to Brembo for the braking system, which consists of six-piston aluminum and steel callipers up front. Named Boldika, these hydraulic callipers can clamp down on the disks with up to 6,269 lb-ft of torque, making them more powerful than any other Brembo braking system developed since the company's founding in 1961. In addition, they feature a technology that pulls the pads off the disks completely when the brake pedal is released, which reduces wear and drag, improving efficiency. This is especially useful for electric vehicles, but also benefits gasoline-powered models. While the Silverado EV Stars and Steel is currently the only model equipped with Brembo Boldika callipers, they will soon be made available to a variety of manufacturers for applications on heavy-duty pickups and large SUVs, both with electric and internal combustion powertrains. This should open the door for even higher performance from these types of vehicles by making available braking systems that are up to the task of slowing down huge weights from high speeds quickly and repeatedly. Automakers expand U.S. manufacturing footprint following trade policy shifts. By Los Angeles Issue on 20 August 2026 Ford Motor Company announced plans to reshore the production of its Lincoln models to the United States, a move that will phase out imports from China and create thousands of new jobs. The company indicated that the decision was made in direct response to the administration's trade policies. The announcement is part of a broader trend of automotive manufacturers increasing their domestic presence. Toyota is investing $3.6 billion to shift Tacoma production from Mexico to its plant in San Antonio, Texas, an expansion that is expected to double the facility's size and create 2,000 jobs. Similarly, Honda is moving the production of its next-generation Civic to Indiana from Mexico to avoid tariffs, a transition expected to secure an annual U.S. output of approximately 210,000 units. General Motors is investing $4 billion to relocate the production of the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox from Mexico to plants in Tennessee and Kansas, while also shifting Buick Envision production from China to Kansas. Mercedes-Benz is also allocating $4 billion to expand SUV production at its facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, citing tariffs as a key driver for the investment. Other significant shifts in the industry include Volvo Trucks, which has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to launch the new VNR regional hauler at its facility in Dublin, Virginia, and Stellantis, which is making the largest single investment in its 100-year history. The Stellantis initiative aims to expand domestic manufacturing by 50% and create more than 5,000 jobs across plants in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. Additionally, Nissan is increasing capacity at its manufacturing plant in Tennessee, and Hyundai Motor Group is boosting annual capacity at its Metaplant America in Ellabell, Georgia. In the engine sector, Rolls-Royce is investing $75 million to increase production at its Aiken, South Carolina, facility, following a $24 million expansion of its plant in Mankato, Minnesota. President Trump's trade agenda is rebuilding the American auto industry. August 20, 2026 by Joe Hoft The following is from the Trump team. Ford Motor Company announced it will reshore production of its Lincoln models to the United States - phasing out imports from China and creating thousands of new American jobs. This is the latest proof that President Donald J. Trump's America First trade agenda is delivering exactly as designed: rewarding domestic manufacturing, protecting American workers, and rebuilding America's supply chains. Ford CEO Jim Farley was unambiguous: "We made this decision as soon as the policy of the Administration was set." Ford joins a rapidly expanding roster of automakers expanding their U.S. footprint and returning production to American soil: * Toyota is investing $3.6 billion to shift Tacoma production from Mexico to its San Antonio, Texas, plant - creating 2,000 high-quality jobs and doubling the facility's size. * Honda is producing its next-generation Civic in Indiana rather than Mexico to avoid tariffs - locking in approximately 210,000 units of annual U.S. output. * General Motors is investing $4 billion to move production of the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox from Mexico to plants in Tennessee and Kansas, while shifting Buick Envision production from China to Kansas - boosting domestic capacity by hundreds of thousands of vehicles. * Mercedes-Benz is investing $4 billion to expand SUV production at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama, plant - citing tariffs as the key driver. * Volvo Trucks has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to launch production of the new VNR regional hauler at its New River Valley facility in Dublin, Virginia. * Stellantis is making the largest single investment in its 100-year U.S. history to expand domestic manufacturing by 50% - launching five new vehicles and creating more than 5,000 jobs across plants in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. * Nissan is maximizing capacity at its Tennessee manufacturing plant - one of the largest and most productive in North America - adding models and sustaining thousands of American jobs. * Hyundai Motor Group is boosting annual capacity at its Metaplant America in Ellabell, Georgia, as part of broader multi-billion-dollar U.S. investments aimed at producing the vast majority of vehicles sold here domestically. * Rolls-Royce is investing $75 million to boost engine production at its Aiken, South Carolina, facility, and recently completed a $24 million expansion of its Mankato, Minnesota, plant. President Trump's America First agenda is scoring a decisive victory over decades of offshoring. Companies that once chased cheap labor overseas are now pouring capital into U.S. plants - delivering vehicles Made in America, by American workers, for American consumers.
