Vir Biotechnology shares jump on Gilead cancer collaboration. Published on 10/14/2026 at 10:00 am EDT - Modified on 10/14/2026 at 10:01 am EDT By Adriano Marchese Vir Biotechnology shares jumped Wednesday morning after the company said it signed an agreement with Gilead Sciences to discover and develop next-generation t-cell engagers for solid tumors. Shares traded 8.2% at $11.48 ahead of the morning bell. The clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company has signed a collaboration and license agreement with Gilead to discover and engineer three novel dual-masked T-cell engager development candidates aimed at targeting solid tumor-associated antigens. T-cell engagers, or TCEs, are powerful anti-tumor agents designed to direct the immune system, specifically T-cells, to destroy cancer cells. TCEs have become an important treatment option for blood cancers, but their usage in solid tumors has been limited due to toxicity. Gilead will have an exclusive license to nominate and advance candidates developed under the collaboration and will be responsible for development, manufacturing and commercialization activities. As part of the deal, Vir will be in line to receive a total of $135 million in payments, made up of a $65 million cash portion and a $25 million equity investment at a 30% premium, as well as up to $45 million in potential near-term preclinical milestones. Vir added that it has the potential to receive up to $1.74 billion in further development, regulatory and commercial milestones, along with tiered high single-digit to low double-digit royalties on net sales. Raheem DeVaughn on R&B and Black mental health. Published on October 8, 2026 Raheem DeVaughn talks ownership, R&B, and healing on The Morning Hustle. R&B mainstay Raheem DeVaughn stopped by The Morning Hustle for a conversation that spanned business, music, and community. The DMV favorite opened up about his new project, Quiet Storm Lover Tome Un, and his decision to re-record his 20th-anniversary album, The Love Experience. For DeVaughn, the move is about ownership. Re-recording old work creates a new master, and he wants to lead by example for independent and legacy artists chasing control of their catalogs. He also shared his love for where R&B stands today, praising fresh work from Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. DeVaughn makes music with intention, refusing to chase trends for quick money. "Music is only old to someone who hasn't heard it yet," he said, describing his focus on timeless songs that keep fans dancing for hours at deep-catalog shows. Beyond the mic, DeVaughn stays active in the community. Through his Love Life Foundation and a partnership with Gilead Sciences on the "Care for the Culture" initiative, he urges people to get tested and know their status. He also spoke candidly about mental health, encouraging Black men to seek therapy. Losing his father, he shared, pushed him into the work that revealed his own strength. Looking ahead, DeVaughn teased a City Winery tour bringing his classics to life live for fans. Stories from our partners. OkayAfrica
STAT+: Why Gilead can't stop talking about its ambitions in immunology. Speaking at recent investor conferences, Gilead Sciences' top executives have been emphatically bullish about the biotech's years-long push to develop drugs for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. "It's one of the three scientific areas that are our core focus," Gilead Chief Financial Officer Andy Dickinson told investors at the Cantor Global Healthcare Conference earlier this month. "We're the largest virology company. We've built a robust oncology business. The third leg of the stool, so to speak, is the I&I [inflammation and immunology] business that we're growing."
Gilead Sciences has partnered with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to expand access to twice-yearly lenacapavir for HIV prevention across Latin America and the Caribbean. The agreement uses PAHO's Regional Revolving Funds to create a coordinated pathway for country-led adoption of the long-acting HIV prevention treatment. The partnership addresses a critical need in the region, where new HIV infections increased by 13% between 2010 and 2024. The agreement provides access for 14 countries outside Gilead's existing voluntary licensing agreements, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The collaboration combines PAHO's regional coordination and procurement capabilities with Gilead's access strategy to enable sustainable scale-up of HIV prevention efforts.
