Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program with a certificate.
  • Active California Registered Nurse license.
  • Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support certification, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification required by the American Heart Association, Basic Dysrhythmia certification, and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification upon employment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal communication, collaborative teamwork, quality enhancement, and professional practice abilities.
  • Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication capabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to acute psychiatric and cardiovascular recovery patients in accordance with clinical needs, physician orders, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor hemodynamic status, interpret diagnostic results such as electrocardiograms and point-of-care troponin tests, and promptly communicate critical or abnormal findings to attending physicians.
  • Conduct thorough initial and ongoing assessments, including psychosocial, emotional, and pain evaluations, to formulate, maintain, and prioritize goal-directed care plans.
  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures, enforce time-out protocols, and conduct pain reassessments after medication administration and before transfer or discharge.
  • Initiate patient and family education and plan discharge transitions tailored to age-specific requirements.
  • Serve in charge nurse and supervisory capacities as required, directing patient care team activities across unit operations and Surgical Services.
  • Assign, delegate, and adjust staffing coverage based on employee competencies, patient acuity, and unit demand.
  • Foster interdisciplinary relationships, mentor staff, assist with orientation, and resolve interpersonal and operational conflicts through the chain of command.
  • Collaborate with department directors on scheduling, interviewing candidates, and conducting performance evaluations and counseling.
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers and maintain complete, accurate, and timely nursing documentation in electronic health record systems, including Medi-Tech.
  • Administer and reconcile medications, perform Pyxis and narcotic accounting, follow approved abbreviation standards, and complete telephone read-back validation within required timeframes.
  • Maintain emergency equipment readiness, including crash cart and defibrillator checks, and follow safe patient handling and equipment protocols.
  • Uphold infection control protocols, including OSHA bloodborne pathogen and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, and follow National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Participate in data collection and continuous quality improvement initiatives, including departmental Core Measures implementation.
  • Recognize and report mandatory indicators, including signs of abuse, to appropriate regulatory bodies such as Adult Protective Services, and adhere to hospital policies and labor standards.
  • Perform direct patient care within the scope of practice as needed.
  • Assess patient care continuously and direct staff to make immediate changes to the plan of care.
  • Ensure efficient department functions and proper use of time, equipment, and staff.
