Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related discipline is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college acceptable to the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards is preferred.
  • Six years of direct medical laboratory experience is required.
  • A valid license as a Medical Laboratory Supervisor from the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards is required.
  • National certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a Medical Technologist is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards is required.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of advanced medical laboratory work in all applicable core laboratory sections, including general chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis, is required.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices related to the core laboratory, its personnel, and its functions is required.
  • The ability to prioritize and coordinate section activities in relation to department functions is required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • The ability to multitask, handle stress appropriately, and work in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • The ability to work well with others and consistently display a courteous, professional attitude is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform tests across the core laboratory sections, including hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, general chemistry, and immunochemistry.
  • Organize workflow across all shifts, including first, second, and third shifts.
  • Supervise personnel in the core laboratory sections.
  • Establish and meet departmental goals.
  • Schedule staff and manage payroll.
  • Support employee engagement and growth.
  • Evaluate staff performance and take disciplinary actions when appropriate.
  • Perform the physical duties of the position, including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing, as well as keyboard and computer use when required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of medical laboratory supervision experience is preferred.
