Requirements
- Bachelors required degree in a healthcare related discipline.
- Minimum work experience includes six years of direct medical laboratory experience.
- Six years of direct medical laboratory experience is required.
- Two years of medical laboratory supervision experience is preferred.
- Valid license as a Medical Laboratory Supervisor from the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards.
- National certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a Medical Technologist.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist by the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of advanced medical laboratory work in all applicable Core Laboratory sections (General Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis).
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices as they relate to the core laboratory, its personnel, and its functions, including establishing and meeting departmental goals, staff scheduling, payroll, employee engagement and growth, evaluation of staff performance, and disciplinary actions.
- Skill in prioritizing and coordinating section activities in relationship to department functions.
- Skill in both verbal and written communication.
- Ability to multitask, handle stress appropriately, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Works well with others and consistently displays a courteous, professional attitude in all situations.
- Physical requirements include medium lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 lbs frequently and 10 lbs constantly; may involve up to 100 lbs in emergency situations; frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching and standing; keyboard or repetitive motions may be required.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all sections of the core laboratory across all shifts and capable of performing tests, organizing workflow, and supervising personnel in hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, general chemistry, and immunochemistry across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
- Oversee supervision of 20 or more direct reports in the core laboratory.
- Coordinate and prioritize section activities to align with department functions and goals.
- Maintain professional and courteous interactions with patients, family, visitors, and staff.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college acceptable to the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards (preferred).
- Two years of medical laboratory supervision experience (preferred).
