Requirements
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and attainment of a Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience working in an oil and gas manufacturing environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex piping issues.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to pipefitting work.
  • Good physical condition and stamina to perform manual labor and work in various conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Install piping spools and associated supports in accordance with construction drawings and specifications.
  • Lay out small-bore piping on skids, confirming routing, dimensions, and clearances before fitting.
  • Fit socket-weld and threaded small-bore pipe and components using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Read, interpret, and redline construction drawings and blueprints, including isometric drawings, P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Participate in project reviews with Engineering and Drafting to clarify drawings, address constructability questions, and document changes.
  • Use precision measuring tools to align and level machinery.
  • Anchor machinery to foundations or mounting points using appropriate fasteners and techniques.
  • Assemble machinery components according to manufacturer instructions, attaching motors, belts, pulleys, and accessories and ensuring connections are secure and properly torqued.
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, belt adjustments, and cleaning.
  • Inspect machinery visually and operationally to identify wear, damage, or potential issues, and develop inspection checklists and procedures.
  • Replace worn or damaged components such as bearings, seals, belts, gears, and shafts, ensuring replacement parts meet specifications and are properly installed.
  • Align machinery components using precision measurement tools and adjust and calibrate equipment to maintain tolerances and prevent misalignment-related issues.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems, electrical faults, and hydraulic or pneumatic system malfunctions; identify root causes and develop solutions.
  • Recognize and understand common mechanical drawing symbols and notations, including weld symbols, dimension lines, and geometric tolerances.
  • Read blueprint dimensions and tolerances accurately.
  • Read assembly drawings to understand component fit, fasteners, connections, and assembly sequences.
  • Read detail drawings showing components such as threads, gears, and bearings.
  • Align machinery components, including shafts and couplings, within specified tolerance levels.
  • Use welding and fabrication skills to repair or modify machinery components, fabricate brackets, hangers, or structural supports, and weld metal parts as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, equipment maintenance, and repairs.
  • Document modifications made to equipment or machinery, including welding repairs or structural changes.
  • Report safety incidents, near misses, or violations of safety protocols to supervisors or safety officers.
  • Inspect equipment installations and repairs to verify compliance with engineering specifications and industry codes, and identify and address deviations from quality standards or specifications.
  • Ensure welding work conforms to welding procedure specifications and code requirements.
  • Follow safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and lockout/tagout procedures, and comply with relevant safety regulations.
  • Follow applicable codes, standards, and regulations governing instrumentation and electrical work.
  • Conduct risk, hazard, and equipment assessments and implement mitigation measures for hazards associated with instrumentation activities.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to coordinate structural welding-related tasks.
  • Liaise between departments to facilitate workflow and resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues as required.
  • Share knowledge and guide junior technicians or apprentices in the Fabrication Shop.
  • Assist with training programs and mentorship initiatives for less experienced team members.
  • Seek opportunities to improve work processes and procedures.
  • Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
