The DAISY Foundation established the DAISY Award in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, an autoimmune disease. Inspired by the extraordinary care Patrick and his family received from nurses during his illness, the Barnes family created the DAISY Award as a meaningful way to thank nurses for the profound difference they make in the lives of patients and families. Midland Health selects Medaptus Assign to automate and optimize hospitalist patient assignment. Previously, Midland Health relied on a manual, spreadsheet-based process to assign an average of 130 patient census every day. Each morning, patient names were pulled from Cerner, entered into Excel, and manually redistributed to balance workload percentages across hospitalists - while also determining who should receive step-down or ICU patients and preventing mid-levels from being assigned PCU or ICU cases.
